I know! It's amazing! I've been shopping around and some of the places offer a measly equipment room with no amenities for almost 4,000 B a month.

Fitness First at the Ari BTS station quoted me 450B per day (if I didn't want a membership.) Then, they said if I just did aerobic classes and didn't want to use the exercise machines I could pay 200B a day (what a deal ).

I never would have thought it would take so much careful plodding to join a gym. I'm hoping to buy my membership from some unhappy person who discarded their membership (and thus get a slight discount).

Anyways... :o

At other branches of California, they've been advertising the Paragon branch in the following way (on giant posters with a smarmy, self-satisfied looking female model):

"Come Exercise With Famous Celebrities At Our New Six-Star Gym In Siam Paragon!"

Doesn't bode well. :o

I think it's mainly a device to squeeze more cash out of existing members for adding a new branch (because the contracts given out in the last year or so have specifically excluded Paragon from "all branches available" level of memberships.

Hello. Thinking of joining California Wow at Siam Paragon. But, I'm not sure when it opens. They are already selling memberships but....

Does anyone know?

on-site sales office said grand opening by March 2006....Silom branch sales office said by Thai New Year in April 2006.....

Fitness First, 1,800 Baht a month. A bargain really as you're buying health (assuming that you actually go and work out regularly), which is priceless. That said, if you have the space at home (and don't mind the lack of variety in machines, and lack of candy), it's much more financially practical to build your own gym.

The cost to work out at the flagship branch is typically only a few hundred Baht more a month.... mostly because of the addition of having towel service, I'd assume California Wow is the same.

Yes. In the US, it's "California Fitness". Outside of the US, it's "California WOW". I signed a longer-term contract for less than 400 THB/month.

wow how did you get that? the lowest price I found was "Diamond" membership for 8 years at B45,000 which works out to B469 per month.....

I kept repeating "that's too expensive". Finally, the 4-5 sales people gave up and a "sales manager" (who knows what she really did) came up with an acceptable price - in actuality: 358 THB/month. Too, I went from the Suk23 location to the Silom gym...back and forth, several times...

Heng, as far as I know all the branches provide towels. I think the only thing you get extra at Paragon is the fact that you're exercising in Paragon.

They've now replaced the horrible Paragon promotional posters with the anorexic model with other horrible posters featuring the same horrible anorexic model with even fewer clothes. I mean, I can appreciate female beauty but this is not that.

      Those were the days.

      I played amateur and some semi-pro until retiring at 42. I was getting injured and couldn't shake them off. Got a groin injury, in Lincolnshire somewhere, and it stayed with me all season. Time to stop. There was a match in Hainault. I had my kit in the car boot. I was watching a game and a player went off injured. They had no sub on hand (although at that time there was none allowed in the higher levels). I offered to take his place. Accepted by all. The ref came over and said not to head the ball. Well; I plain forgot. The dizziness stayed with me for days. I couldn't drive home. Good job the wife was with me. Who was still a learner. Never heard the end of it from her.

      Why are older parents out of touch with the real world? I would think the older you are, the wiser you are, especially if you're an intelligent person to start with. Parenting and raising children has no age limit, and it doesn't matter what's going on in the world as far as raising your kids with respect, morals, and a caring attitude are concerned. Playing with your kids is fine, but the most important things are providing, discipline, teaching morals, right from wrong, respect for elders, animals and others in general, and showing them how you treat others around you, especially their mom. Better to give 10 good years to your kids than being absent like millions of fathers are.

      I don't think we need to be 'over sensitive' about protecting the 'honour' of Cannabis... ... some people just troll these issues and make too much of it... But, its possible he was extremely high and went wondering / confused perhaps - it would be inaccurate to suggest someone high 'could not' or 'would not' behave like this. I see high-loonies all the time doing weird shyit... just as a see drunk-loonies all the time doing weird shyit... I've never seeng anyone doing weird shyit because of coffee, so thats over-egging the weed defence. Are you perhaps being over sensitive regarding the 'cannabis-intoxicated' angle because you feel there is a minority of posters who are 'anti-cannabis' on this forum ? and perhaps the media ?

      The whole narrative relating to cannabis use is so dumb. If anything, the cannabis made the guy less aggressive when he did a runner. He would have done a runner anyway because he was on visa overstay, and he had broken into some homes, but likely the cannabis subdued him a bit and made him easier to deal with. Imagine he was a bit drunk instead. Then he probably would have been far more violent and aggressive for the police to deal with at that point. Might have ended up in a blood filled tussle, and with half his clothes getting torn off in the process, whilst trying to capture the guy. Have seen the photos with drunk and bloodied guys down in Pattaya too many times. This guy came out looking fine after being apprehended. Thank goodness for his cannabis use.

      Having kids when old

      'm thinking it's actually better to be a good father at any age than being absent when the children are young, age 0-5, which are the most important ages a child goes through, learning most of what they need to know. I'm actually still in Thailand, only because I'm waiting for the right time to re-establish back in the US with her. We had her when I was 60, 68 now, and still in good health. Of course I hope to live long enough to see her independent in the world at 20 or more. Many fathers don't give a rats ass about their children, and leave raising up to the mothers or grandmas, especially here, which isn't a good thing for any child, so a father in a child's life is very important, especially in those formative years.
