Olympics Or Any Great Event

Featured Replies

Queen looked a bit grumpy and ruffled - then that was probably due to the parachute jump?

The Queen was probably grumpy because it was past her bedtime. Most people that age go to bed quite early.

A rather shallow comment to a throwaway piece of humour - what is worth the time?

You are too sensitive. Not a shallow comment at all nor an attempt at humor - unlike your parachute quip.

However, despite being royalty, she is still an 86-yr old human being as as such it is HIGHLY unlikely that she is used to staying up until midnight, let alone 21:00. I know someone around that age who calls it a night at 19:00.

"Not a shallow comment at all nor an attempt at humor -" so what was it then? and how doies it relate to the post I made?

People love carping at the Queen... I suppose it makes them feel important?

Just be happy USA and GB are doing well... a poor Olympics for the Aussies, but they'll be back!

I have been watching quite a bit of the Olympics and wonder where some of these event announcers are coming from.

Last night I was watching a replay of the Women's Beach Volleyball match between the US and China when a particularly exciting back and forth point happened.

The announcer said, after the point was over and in a decidedly British accent the following...paraphrased but very close to what he said.

"If you think the life cycle of a tadpole to a frog is a miracle, then the last point can only be described as a miracle as well."

The point was incredibly well played by both sides but describing a point in volleyball as equivalent to an act of nature is really carrying things a little too far.

I have enjoyed watching it but ask this question. Are table tennis and badminton matches finally over?clap2.gif

Edit in: I guess it depends on which act of nature you are referring it to. The one he chose doesn't seem to be the correct one.

There's a lot of complete air-heads commentating on the box these days. The sound accompanying the Jubilee celebrastions was heavily criticised and now the Olympics are also suffering.

Most of the commentators do not even bother to find out how to pronounce the names of the competitors correctly, nor any details other than those published in the programme. Whether this is their fault or that of the producers of the programme, I do not know. Just that it is my licence money that pays their wages and I do not like it.
