Astral, I don't know which European city you're from, but if you are from UK as I guess, then Thailand leaves it in the shade for murder rates and I would guess, rape rates, although as someone else has pointed out, most rapes in LOS go unreported so the figs mean little.

We are mainly talking about media hype here.

I am from the UK and I feel a lot safer walking around in Thailand than I do in the UK.

Since you feel the figures for Thailand are inaccurate, I am not sure how you make the comparison?

Then one might question how well you know UK [being as you haven't been living there for many years].

Jokes aside, I do however feel more safe walking in Bangkok at night then any average city in my homeountry. But that might becouse here I don't see many streetgangs of specific cultural backgrounds that are wandering around and making live hard for everyone...
