August 13, 201213 yr He arrived here as an immigrant from Somalia when he was 8 years old. He's a Muslim and his name's Mohamed. Good job we're careful about who we let in, eh?
August 13, 201213 yr You forgot he was an Asylum Seeker too. I was going to post this in the sports forum in regard to Sporting Adversity, there is another that springs to mind Lomong who had to run for three days to escape from South Sudanese fighters, Now runs for the U.S but ran in the same race. Not bad for Asylum Seeking refugees who put nothing back into society.
August 14, 201213 yr What's the secret? We've taken many Somali and Sudanese refugees in Australia, all they do is run in gangs.
August 14, 201213 yr They seem to have taken over the bus driving jobs in Adelaide. Most of the gangsters I see are white with leather jackets on.
August 14, 201213 yr They seem to have taken over the bus driving jobs in Adelaide. Most of the gangsters I see are white with leather jackets on. Many of the Sudanese ended up in Perth, and they have been involved in some quite serious violence related crime. Including gang murders. Many Somalis, Eritrean and middle east refugees drive cabs there. There has been 21 assaults by taxi drivers on women passengers in the same amount of months. Women now text cab driver names and no's to family when entering taxis. And they say Phuket is bad!
August 14, 201213 yr Author What's the secret? We've taken many Somali and Sudanese refugees in Australia, all they do is run in gangs. Perhaps they're living up to society's expectations.
August 15, 201213 yr And we wouldn't have had Jessica Ennis, another favorite of the media, without her immigrant father. Born in Sheffield, Ennis is one of two daughters of Vinnie Ennis and Alison Powell,[4] and has a younger sister named Carmel.[4] Her father, originally from Jamaica,[5] is a self-employed painter and decorator;[4] her mother, a social worker, was born in Derbyshire.[6] Neither of her parents was particularly athletic, but her father did some sprinting at school whilst her mother favoured the high jump.[5] They introduced her to athletics by taking her to a 'Start:Track' event at Sheffield's Don Valley Stadium during the 1996 school summer holidays.[7] In later years she joked that her parents took her to the event because "I think my mum and dad wanted me out of the house!"[8] She won her first athletics prize there – a pair of trainers. More importantly, it was there that she met the man who was to become her coach, Toni Minichiello.[9] She took to the sport immediately and joined the City of Sheffield Athletic Club the following year, aged eleven.[10] In November 2000, aged fourteen, she won the Sheffield Federation for School Sports Whitham Award for the best performance by a Sheffield athlete at the National Schools Championships, where she won the high jump competition.[11]Growing up in the Highfield area of Sheffield,[12] Ennis attended Sharrow Primary School and King Ecgbert School in Dore, where she did her GCSEs and stayed on in the sixth form to gain three A-Levels,[4] before going on to study psychology at the University of Sheffield and graduating in 2007 with a 2:2.[4] Google Wikipedia for source.
August 21, 201213 yr Well done to the chap, he should be cited as an example to others. This should not deflect from an impartial analysis as to whether or not immigrants from a particular Country are more problematic than others, nor should it cause us to fail to properly assess whether asylum seekers are legitimate or not.
August 22, 201213 yr Author Well done to the chap, he should be cited as an example to others. There you go. We're talking about an Olympic gold medalist not the Fox News view of the world.

I'm not quite sure what you are driving at there, all Olympic gold medalists should be an example to inspire all of us, indeed to single one out because of their ethnic or religious background could be construed as the racism of low expectations. Still, rather the example cited than the idiot who tried to grab the Olympic torch en route to the stadium. http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=4db_1342797055
August 24, 201213 yr Not bad for Asylum Seeking refugees who put nothing back into society. Not getting at you or this guy personally Mossy but what exactly has he put back into Society? He gets a lot of dosh (they get paid pretty good) from the Lottery and tax to do what he loves. All of these Athletes will then keep their personal riches from what they have earned in endorsements. Sorry, it goes against my grain, they should do sports that are supported well enough by the paying public to fund their wages We are in a major recession and this government continue to throw money at funding athletes. Who cares if we don't win any Gold medals in future. Not me. We came third in the medal list for a country our size, this just shows how much of our money is being wasted on Athletics. Just my view of course.

Just my view of course. I'm going to disagree with you there mrboj....more money spent on all sporting activity is a good thing, in particular on improving access to and promoting interest in all sports. I'd rather money was spent on that than gastric bypass operations and chair lifts.

Just my view of course. I agree with Smokie above on this. Not necessarily on the payments to the top-drawer athletes, but the money spent in general by the govt and the National Lottery on supporting sports at all levels. It does keep a certain proportion of the population fit and healthy, thus lowering the costs to the NHS - which have been raised recently to incredible heights by having to treat all the obscenely obese (ugly fat bastards). These balloon gutted slobs should be made to pay all their own costs, 'cos whatever they turn up at the quack's with, it's a self-inflicted injury. Anyone with a BMI over, say, 35 should be penalised in every way - taxed for walking in the street, taxed for using a vehicle, taxed on their shopping, taxed for their NHS contributions, taxed for not working, bloody tax them out of existence. Support the fit and healthy, tax the ugly fat bastards!!
August 24, 201213 yr I would take it a step further and say that kids should be weighed at school and if their BMI is too high then the parents should be visited, educated and monitored. If they can't control their kids weight then what the hell are they doing as parents?? Of course we all hated having to beg for biscuits as kids but the truth is it was good parenting at work....tough love is good for kids....as is lots and lots of exercise! As for junk fast food places I would place 100% tax on all these places with immediate effect....but have tax incentives for baked potato outlets or places selling healthy take away food, salads etc. My tuppence worth as you say mrboj.... Edited to add....water at half price.....fizzy soft drinks priced similarly to beer.
August 25, 201213 yr Agree with both Smokes and Humph on the health side of the debate but I just personally think the money could be spent more wisely. Of course we don't want obese kids. As you say smokes "tough love" is required and that is exactly what I give my soon-to-be 4 year old daughter. I set my strategy from the day she was born and swore I would not be the one who introduced her to the bad things. I have been careful not to say she can't have them but just not introduced her to them. To-date, she has never had a fizzy drink and even when people offer her one she says no and asks for water. She has also never even visited a fast food chain or tasted a burger, however she has had a try of chicken nuggets at a friends house but prefers sticky rice. However, I'm not daft and realise that as she goes to school, her friends will introduce her to that stuff and again I won't say no, I'll leave it to her but just hope that her taste buds have already chosen to prefer other foods.

Had to go to the quack yesterday - nasty itchy/scratchy rash. Turned out to be shingles. Marvellous antibiotics reduced the (very painful) itching within three or four hours. Had to go about this time last year - pneumonia. Went to the eye-doctor a few years back for a cataract operation. Now need the other eye done. During WWII i was in hospital twice - once for tonsils, the other 'cos I ran full-tilt into the yellow gas-detector metal plate that was mounted on a wooden post in the middle of the playground. After the war I had a few more visits - at school again I ran full-tilt into a blast wall, broke a collar-bone playing rugby. Later broke both collar-bones at different times playing rugby, plus cracked ribs, plus an afternoon visit when I was trying to break the Cambridge-Swindon-Cambridge bike record and hit a patch of loose gravel at the bottom of a hill in Swindon. I think that's about it. Hey - I found out yesterday that if you're over 60 you get free prscriptions on the NHS. Edit - what's this got to do with bloody immigrants? Oh yes - watched a "This is your life" programme on Kelly Holmes last night. And the dermatologist who looked at my shingles wore a sari. Good people, both of 'em.
September 26, 201213 yr I employed my first female English craftsman last Monday, not bad for this bloody immigrant!!
September 26, 201213 yr And the dermatologist who looked at my shingles wore a sari. The young doctor who stitched up the wife after our child was born was Indian, she told us it was cheaper to bring in Foreign Nationals on contracts than it was train home grown talent, not sure of the veracity of that statement, but sums up poor economics based on short term monetary expenditure.
