Hello!

Please advise on the following situation:

UK guy marries Thai girl in Thailand.

Guy returns to UK to continue job; wife stays in Thailand.

What must happen so that the Thai girl can go and live with her husband in the UK?

I believe the best way is for her to get a Spouse visa. Is this true?

What are the necessary steps to go about getting one? Is it a real ordeal?

Perhaps the best thing to do would be get some lawyer in Thailand to sort out the paper work?

Any recommendations or suggestions gratefully received :o

Fanciman,

Whether you instruct a lawyer in Thailand is your call, but if you do, make sure you select one carefully. Make sure they have a thorough knowledge of UK immigration law and are not self-appointed experts.

For your wife to join you, she will have to apply for a settlement visa on the basis of being the spouse of someone settled in the UK. The cost is £260.00 payable in local currency. Once the application is submitted, your wife will be advised after about 2 weeks of her interview date. The application form can be found here. She will also need to undergo a TB test prior to making the application. Details of the TB test can be found in English on the embassy website, or in Thai in the pinned thread on this forum.

The documentation you need to support the application is detailed on several threads on the forum.

Cheers,

Scouse.
