Greeting Ladys and Gentlemen,

I was wondering about the retirtment visa.I opened a Thai Bank account with 500 baht in it.I will retuen to Australia in 2 days. How long to I have to be out of Thailand before I return and what is the best way to do this.I am 64 yo and got my 30 day entry extended to 90 days by a doctor at Bangkok Hospital Pattaya after he consulted with my Neuro in Australia.Do I have to send 800000 baht from Australia to my Thai bank and have it in there for 90 days before I can return or get a visa from from Brisbane and can come back after a month after I fixed up my bussines in Australia,eg see Neuro, get medicine, etc. Also when I come back can I take my 800000 baht out of the bank just as long as it is in there when I next apply for my retirement visa.I have been seeing and living with same Thai lady for the last 10 years when I come over about 3 times a year for 30 days but we will never marry,

Thank you,

You can come back any time you want, you do not need to stay a certain time out of Thailand.

Just get a Non-O visa an return to Thailand. it depends on the consulate what the requirements for getting the visa will be. However, for the visa the money does not have to be in an account in Thailand.

With a non-O visa you cna stay in Thailand for 90 days. Once you are in Thailand, you can get an extension of stay of 1 year after being here for 60 days. for that you must show 800,000 THB in a bankaccount in thailand for at east 2 months (3 months all next extension) OR show an income of 65,000 a month (can be from abroad, in which case you need a letter from your embassy confirming your income) OR you use a combination of yearly income and money in the bank, together totaling 800,000.

Eevery year you can apply for a new extension of stay at immigration.

Im not sure if I got it right, but some time long ago someone told me that you could get permanent visa in Canada regardless of age if you had a certain amount of money in a local bank. Isnt it possible in Thailand? Is there any amount of money in a local bank that would enable you to stay on a longterm visa? Anyone know?

No there is not. But a one year extension of stay is available with 10 million baht in an immigration approved investment which can be extended yearly.

Oh, we wish. Unfortunately there's no such thing as a "permanent visa." Doesn't matter where you get it or whether you have money in a local or international bank. Just doesn't exist. We wish, eh?
