Mukdahan

Featured Replies

I am moving to Mukdahan next month to teach English and was wondering whether anyone has any advice or tips about living in the city or surrounding area?

All comments welcome :)

Mukdahan is a nice place to live an work..just had a" big c" open here, and there building a home pro here.

easy to find a place to live.nice mix of expatsstill has the small town feel

you comeing by bus or what.

what school will you be teaching in??

You can buy Laos-style French baguettes in the bus station.

You can go up the folly that looks like St Johns Tower just south of the city.

You can visit the National Park that has rocks that look like mushrooms, about 50 kms or something, south of the city.

You can view the Mekhong River from the temple that sits on a hill about 10 kms outside the city. That's very nice.

You can go to Laos, either by catching a bus from the bus station or catching a boat from near the 'town hall'.

You can rent a motorbike from the big English-speaking coffee shop in town.

You're making a wise move getting in there before it is ruined.

because there's no visa check, just show id card(Thai or Lao)

expats don't have an offical id card.

expats have to use the bridge to cross over.(show passport)

Thanks for the update, there used to be an immigration point for the boat.

Thanks for the info.

I'm going to be teaching in Mukdahan High School. Will be heading there from Bangkok, probably by bus.

My Thai is basically non-existent at the moment, will this be a problem communicating in Mukdahan? I'm hoping to pick some of the language up whilst I'm there.
