PM Thaksin says Thai economy has improved greatly since he has been administering the country

Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra has indicated that since he has been chosen to administer Thailand, the national economy has been significantly improving. At the same time, he has insisted that as a Prime Minister, it is necessary for him to stabilize the country in all areas.

During his weekly radio session this morning, the premier stated that the stock index has risen to 700 points last month, or about 280 percent increase. He said that this reflects the investors have shown more confidence towards the Thai economic situation.

In regards to the claim saying Dr. Thaksin exploited his position in order to gain benefits for the Shin Corp group, he has denied the accusation. According to the Prime Minister, the Shin Corp’s economic growth was only 289 percent in comparison to other successful companies such as Bangkok Bank, PTT, and Thai Cement. He has insisted that he is managing the national economy as a whole, and he does not provide benefits to Shin Corp only.

As for his relationship with Mr. Sondhi Limthongkul, the Prime Minister said he used to have a cordial relationship with this media tycoon. Mr. Sondhi had asked the premier to help him to reduce the 3 billion baht debt structure to 500 million baht. The mogul also requested the Dr. Thaksin to support his television media management. However, the Prime Minister said he could not provide such assistance as it is illegal. He said he will not be selective towards certain groups of people, but he will develop and stabilize the country altogether.
