LG will produce the smartphone, while the Samsung will make a high-end tablet. Also to debut will be an upgraded version of the Nexus 7.

Google is betting even bigger on Nexus.

The search giant is set to debut the latest version of its Android operating system, known as Android 4.2, at an event scheduled for October 29 in New York. Rather than the rumored Key Lime Pie, it will be known as Android 4.2+, or an updated version of Jelly Bean, according to a person familiar with the announcement.

Google will also be showing off the first devices to run on Android 4.2, including a high-end tablet, the Nexus 10, from Samsung Electronics, and LG Electronics's first Nexus phone, the Nexus 4, CNET has confirmed. Also shown off will be an updated version of the Nexus 7 tablet which debuted in July.

I think during early 2013 there will be so many new and "lot more better" Android tablets hitting the market at good prices, like the Nexus 10, that tablets bought now compared to next year's tablets will be like comparing apples and oranges, especially when it comes to screen resolutions. But hey, that also means we'll probably also see continued price drops across all models. All a good thing.

Don't get your hopes up folks. Nexus 4 phone will be sold for $499 or $599 for 8Gb memory and +$100 for 16Gb model. $399 rumours long gone. Now guess Nexus 10 tablet price @ 2560x1600 screen ;)

I'd like a faster, slicker tablet and maybe a 7in is the way to go rather than a Note 2 - Something with expandable hard drive is a must this time as nothing above 16GB seems to make it here.

Keen to see this Nexus 10...

Pricing looks great, clearly muratremix was quite far off the mark with her pricing. whistling.gif

The Nexus 4 is Google’s latest Nexus smartphone, developed with LG. It has a quad-core processor and a 4.7-inch display.

It’s priced at $299 (8GB) and $349 (16GB) for unlocked, contract-free units. A 16GB unit is available on T-Mobile for $199.

Althouh I have an upcoming iPhone 5, if they sell Nexus 4 for $299, I would buy one. It seems that carphone shop was taking pre-orders at a very high price, or google decided to lower price at the last minute somehow.

As for nexus 10, it looks very very ugly. They can't use Apple patented design anymore, can they? :)

Clearly I am not as sophisticated as you as I really don't consider a tablet to be "fashionable"? Now a faux pink Burberry dog sweater? That's ugly, unless you happen to be Paris Hilton. ;)

Me neither, a tablet is a piece of plastic casing with a screen, to you want to add tits or what??

Very good specs for both units, man that screen on the 10" tablet looks good, I want onewub.png

I read the Nexus 10 was to be brushed aluminum rather than plastic

Sent from Android, please excuse errors in type or judgement.

Specs are very good but it doesn't change the fact it is the most ugly Android tablet released (or being released) so far. Nexus 7 was also kinda ugly and fat, but at that price level, nobody cared.

Well I care if it is sold for $399 usd.

I think it looks really good. Me thinks you have lived in the Apple ecosystem too long.

I've been itching to buy a Android-based 10 inch tablet with high-end specs which I would be happy with for a few years. The Nexus 10 may just scratch that itch once and when it arrives Thailand, which I expect will be several months at least? In the interim to ease the itching I just may buy a 4,000 baht Chinese tablet...and just pass along the low cost Chinese tablet to an in-law (earn some brownie points) once I get the Nexus 10. Then again, I may find out the 4,000 baht Chinese tablet meets my "real" needs....but the Nexus 10 sure looks like it would satisfy my "wants" also.

Here's a brief layman's comparison between the Nexus 10 and IPad. It's a 30 Oct 12 article from the LA Times. I just noticed the Nexus 10 will initially be released in the Wifi Only version. When and if I buy my high-end Android-based tablet I want it to have mobile data capability also. Oh well, maybe I'll just buy and keep that low-end 10 inch Chinese tablet longer or get something now like the Samsung Note 10.1 which does both mobile and Wifi. So many choices....so many needs, wants, desires....I just can't make up my mind! tongue.png

I'm entirely happy with the Galaxy Tab (1 or 2).

The only way they can improve a tablet for me is longer battery life.

All the stuff they are working on at the moment gives reduced battery life ...... completely pointless.

Actually, the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 would probably satisfy me and at about 6,000 baht less than the Galaxy Note 10.1 which does have some better specs and capabilities but additional capabilities I probably don't really need. Aaah, time to go to Sizzler's with the wife for lunch....I'll stop by a Samsung store next Sizzler's and play with their Tab 2 and Note tablets some more....maybe it will help me decide.

actually they've extended the battery life with Jelly Bean 4.1 and 4.2 -

Changing a few tricks in software make minimal changes to battery life.

I want hardware that provides 2 days of full usage, screen resolution increases, more cores ..... who needs it?

the tab 10.1 (1 and 2) are dual core and the Nexus battery life is extended over that of the tab 1 and 2 much of it presumably through the hardware of a 9,000 mah battery vs a 7,000

we all would like a tablet that lasts 2 days but I personally don't want to sacrifice power/performance/visuals

Yes, I have to agree about mobile data (3G) capability. As is, I share my data package between my phone and tablet (AIS Multi-SIM service.) And I get by with just a 150 MB/month plan. Not streaming movies and downloading lots of content. And most times I'm in WiFi areas when using. On occasion (like a long bus ride), I might consume the package early and have to buy a new package. But that's the exception, not the rule.

Still, I have to say that having a tablet device that is 3G capable really raises the confidence bar in just knowing that you can get connected to grab a piece of information from the web virtually anyplace you happen to be.

Looked at the specs for the Nexus 10.

What's the deal with Samsung and Super AmoLED? screens? It is such a gorgeous display, yet they only used it on the Galaxy Tab 7.7. None of their other tablet products have it, and not the new Nexus 10 either. Is there a future for Super AmoLED?

So Android 4.1 is Jelly Bean. And Android 4.2 is Jelly Bean. That video seems to indicate some significant differences and enhancements with 4.2. Why break with past practices of naming each version, and why wouldn't they want to give 4.2 it's own identity?

Gotta wonder about these marketers . . . seems like the dumbest thing since calling the iPad 3 "The New iPad." When the next iPad comes out, it will be interesting seeing a confused public as stores try to clear out the "New iPad" to make way for . . . the new iPad.

Expandable memory . . . Looking at the specs, apparently the Nexus 10 doesn't have a memory card slot. Such a leading-edge device, missing such a basic feature!

What is the thinking of designers about building these devices without a memory card slot to expand memory? I know Apple likes to do this too.

First of all, buying memory this way is expensive. If you want a Nexus 10 with 32GB instead of the basic 16GB model, it's an extra $100 for that extra 16 GB. (I can easily get a 16GB microSD card for about $20 or less. Or even find 64GB for around $75.) Having a slot for a card just seems to give way more flexibility. And not create additional inventory issues for retailers.

Another point is that we tend to not see the higher memory models in the retail stores. Many times it's just the basic models that are seen there. Or, the higher memory models are not available until well after the initial product launch.

I think you will find that, since the very first Google Nexus device, expandable memory via a USD card has never, ever been an option. One should not really expect this to change, and if expandable memory is a requirement then obviously you should not purchase a Nexus device.

I am pretty sure both the Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 supports USB OTG, so fairly simple to plug in a USB flash drive, or even a uSD carrier.

For the most part, Nexus devices tend be more widely available in the base configuration - it can be challenging to find the larger memory--sized models, except peprhaps via a service provider or on eBay.

I don't mind having a WiFI-only tablet - for those times when I do need mobile broadband I just create a Mobile AP with my phone . I just can justify managing a second SIM, and I surely don't want to be swapping it in/out of my phone - that seems idiotic?

I think/hope Google is moving to naming major releases, so maybe 5.0 will be KLP - it seemed silly to name point releases. The whole naming thing started off as a bit of a joke, internal names used externally with little "marketing" behind it.

Note sure about screen technologies, attributes, etc. I tend to look at it and if I like I buy it. Samsung may have some issues extending the AMOLED dispays to larger tablet sizes, or maybe there are some manufacturing/capacity issues? You could probably get to the bottom of it with a Google search?

Too expensive to produce, so puts the price above the competitors, and a nasty rumour that the screens have a very short life (one or two years ..... eek!).

Dont forget that amoled screens are extremely oversaturated, results in out of real images.
