Chiang Mai Zoo invites public to name its albino tiger cubs

CHIANG MAI, 5 November 2012 (NNT) - Chiang Mai Night Safari has invited the public to participate in a contest to name its new pair of white tiger cubs.

Chiang Mai Night Safari Special Area Manager Dr. Srawuth Srisakhun said the cubs were the 17th and the 18th white tigers born in the facility.

The white tiger is the product of a rare mutation of the Bengal tiger, and they have been observed in the wild in Assam, Bengal, and Bihar in India. Compared to their orange counterparts, white tigers tend to be slightly larger. Chiang Mai Night Safari’s latest cubs are currently 3 weeks old.

Individuals interested in naming the young big cats may obtain more information on the contest by calling 053-999-000 or 02-278-1901. The winner will be awarded a one-year-platinum ticket to the Chiang Mai night Safari.

CHIANG MAI, Nov 6 -- Two white tiger cubs—as yet without names—new members of the Chiang Mai Night Safari in this northern province, were introduced to the public for the first time over the weekend. They will be on general display beginning at the end of this year – but first they need to have names.

A naming contest is being held to bestow names for tiger cubs. The winner will receive a free annual pass to the zoo for two persons. Entries close Nov 30.

Chiang Mai Night Safari chief executive officer Sarawut Srisakun brought the pair to meet the public at a news conference on the weekend.

Night Safari chief Sarawut said the cubs are offspring of Phetch and Ploy, their eight-year-old father and mother. Ploy gave birth to the cubs Oct 16.

The as yet unnamed pair are the 18th and 19th white tigers of Chiang Mai Night Safari. (MCOT online news)
