Hosting And Geo-sensitivity?

Short of going through old posts, can anyone with the knowledge (not London cabbies knowledge :o ) give me advice regards the effect of hosting various URLs from different countries has?

ie - How would a .co.uk perform with a US host which is targetted for the UK public as opposed to being hosted in the UK? Further to this, how about a .co.uk hosted in the States aimed at the American public, or the same .co.uk hosted in the UK for the American public? Anything regards .coms from either country?

Have I been clear?

cheers

it doesn't really matter where you host it unless you plan on distributing/downloading large files (lets say of 10MB, 100MB, 1GB, etc). if you host it in the US and the majority of the downloaders or yourself are located in the UK, it would take longer for those in the UK to download it than for those in the US and the other way around.

Thanks for the reply rainman, although I have a feeling it's a bit more involved than that. It may be only milliseconds-worth of a delay in downloading large files (there won't be any anyway), but I'm thinking it could be more to do with how Google et al display their SERPs with relation to the URL and where that URL is hosted...
