I have been traveling out of Thailand alot recently,

Have been calling back with my mobil phone,

Roaming with a DETAC(Happy Card)SIM & 1-2 Call SIM as well for calling and texting to back Thailand..

Not cheap cost approx. 12bhat per text and 100++ baht per minute(I think) for voice while roaming so it burns up top up cards in no time.

Anything out there cheaper to use for roaming calls to Thailand ???

came accros this in my searches...

http://www.thaitel.com/voip/itoll/index.php

Bit diferant than roaming but if its cheap and it works may give it a try??

Anybody out there call Thiland using this service? (link above)

cheers

Many people utilize local SIMs in whatever country you happen to be, and then local VoIP access numbers and/or Thai calling cards.

It really depends on which country you are in, and what types of numbers you are calling in Thailand: fixed or mobile.

AS near as I can figure, with the linked service. iToll, you would of course need a data connection, maybe even WiFi and not 3G?, to make calls back to Thailand.

It's already been said above but I'll add a +1 for simply, don't. Unless you have a Blackberry. I used to roam around Africa & Middle East with my BB and didn't pay a cent over and above my regular BB monthly subs at home. Not for phone calls or sms's obviously (which I simply avoided using) but bbm & email were enough for me. In fact it's been a couple of years but iirc my BB worked in Bangkok, albeit on EDGE, with my Tanzanian Voda sim.
