Chalerm uneasy with Nov 24 mass rally

BANGKOK, Nov 13 – Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yubumrung admitted today that he was concerned with possible third party instigation of violence in the rally planned by the anti-government Pitak Siam group at the Royal Plaza Nov 24.

He quoted an official intelligence report as saying that the third party may create chaos and violence, which he said was in line with the demonstrators’ objective. He called on the public to refrain from political activity and gave assurances that the military will not worsen the situation with a coup.

According to a preliminary report, Mr Chalerm said, supporters of the Nov 24 movement belong to the same group of “financiers” which were connected with the month-long political upheaval in Bangkok in 2006.

He said he will meet with the Royal Thai Police on Thursday and with other security-related agencies Tuesday to outline the government’s peace-keeping policy during the rally.

After that, it will solely depend on the decision of the national police chief, he said, insisting that the government will follow international standards for public demonstrations and avoid using weapons and violence.

He said 50,000 police officers will be on duty during the rally and it will be unnecessary to deploy military personnel. Police have been instructed to prepare an exit behind Parliament e in case it is surrounded and blocked by demonstrators. (MCOT online news)

He obviously must be talking about his old mate Thaksin and his gun for hire Black Shirt thugs.

That's fair, given that the protesters aren't talking about burning down Bangkok.

I don't think the protesters made a formal announcement prior to them " burning down Bangkok " in 2010.

You must have missed the speech by Arisman before the protests telling everyone to "bring a bottle. You can fill it up here."

It seems I did indeed miss that one. Looks like the love child of one Adolf Hitler.

Just like Chalerm, Yingluck, Jatuporn et al are connected to the same financier that sponsored Bangkok 2010

Gosh knows the govt wants the public to refrain from policitical activity as that could lead to real democracy...no sir, can't have none of that.

I guess the Black shirts will be oiling their fire arms and breaking open the weapons caches. It should be the whole of Thailand uneasy about the protest on Nov 24..........NOT because of the protestors, who will be peaceful, but because of the crowd of thugs that Chalerm and his cohorts could draft in to cause any number of incidents designed to make anyone but PTP look bad. Certainly not an event to attend with the wife and kids!

The threat of violence is intended to reduce the crowds. These groups don't resort to violence to bring about change like the red shirts, and the UDD, they use numbers. The last demonstration was reduced by the police setting up checkpoints to stop those from outside of Bangkok from attending, or it would have been quite a bit larger. This time that trick is known so those coming in from out of Bangkok will use different routes so now the threat of violence is being used to reduce the numbers. Allot of political favors are being called in also to distance non-PTP groups from joining.

A demonstration couldn't ask for better free publicity, and the government is falling into place providing it. This demonstration could very easily top 1 million, heck the police alone are providing 50,000, and the government has sparked quite a number of farmers into joining by not paying them yet for their mortgaged rice from last year's crop.

Then there was Thaksin's last interview almost blatantly stating that the red shirts are of no more use to him.

I agree - Chalerm, Thaksin and Jutaporn will be planting people within the crowds to cause violence and then blame the crowds. You don't need to be a genius for that to be obvious. They need a reason to stop the demonstrations and this could well be it. And 50,000 Police? They didn't even get 10% for the 2010 riots... The police are red anyway so why do they need to say they are telling the reds to stay away? Probably because there will actually be violence and they don't want to mar the reds further. Simple change of shirts and no-one would be any the wiser they were amongst reds.

So Charlem believes that the demonstrators cant achieve there objective without a third party??blink.png

I believe that third party is a goup with the initials B.S. and are funded by T.S. a convicted criminal. Be afraid be very afraid.

Chalerm uneasy. He already didn't like the previous rally at the Turf Club, so why would he think differently now? Interesting is the 50,000 strong police to add to the traffic misery. Fortunately in a weekend at Government House / Royal Plaza. The more I read here the more I think I should walk those few blocks on Saturday 24th to have a look. Just wondering what colour shirt I should wear, I only have yellow, pink, green and blue :-)

Yes 50000 police.....how many police are there in Thailand at any one time anyway? He's not too good with figures our Chalerm.....there could be 5 police to one protester; sounds like overkill to me.

Well you don't know what kind of groups voluntary protect the protestors and in Thailand everyone knows each other....Or if the black shirt and the police shoot at the protestors maybe some mid level army guy with his daughter there gets some ideas, which triggers that his superior has to decide if he support it and rush in in force or play another round of gulf.....(OK I half serious half joking....what I mean is that unexpected things can happen)

If I remember correctly an armed guerrilla can bog down about ten armed opponents, although in urban warfare the numbers may be higher. Still even with Dept. PM Pol. Captain Chalerm possibly remembering the problems the 20,000 - 30,000 army personel had in May 2010 (although really spread out with just 2,000 to 3,000 involved in the final stage) AND expecting "possible third party instigation of violence", 50,000 seems a wee bit overdone.

On the other hand, this is Royal Plaza, not CBI or (horror) the favorite shopping area for lots of Thai and Tourists alike. wink.png

Wonder if Chalerm has given any consideration to the logistics of putting 50,000 police into position, also where on earth are they coming from ?

Going to be great day for house breaking etc around the rest of Thailand if the police force plan goes ahead, plus the loss of commission by the constabulary won't go down to well either..

Reckon it's that old ear medicine causing him to act up again.

Listening to this idiots, what choice did the Government had?

Will his son be telling the 3rd parties where to shoot?

And where do 50,000 cops come from? Would they be the ones that allowed the brown, sorry, red shirts,to bring all the tyres, barbed wire, etc into bkk, and then let them invade a hospital?

No/ they're the ones out on bail after killing people.

His rhetoric implies that he's crap scared of military intervention, if things get out of hand that he knows the police can't deal with...... such as a coup!

Just at a tangent. What happens to all other crimes in BKK whilst all and every sunder of a copper is monitoring the rally?

Shall us expats all group and go storm the banks??? giggle.gif
