The previous owner found it 'cool' to have very dark film on the windows. It is ok at daytimes but at night it feels like i am driving around with dark sunglasses.

It is so dark that i actually find it dangerous to drive. With all the motercys, cars and people wihout lights on the roads it is possible that because of the dark windows you see them too late.

I would like to take out this film and replace it with something very light. I would prefer no film but i can appreciate its function to reflect uv and keep the interior a little cooler. The black film is on the inside and windows radiate a lot of heat, i guess the dark film actually absorbs heat better.

Which kind of films are out there, is a clear film without tinting but with a uv filter available?

Yes. Also a good one is the light tint with slight mirror effect. Just go on down to your local car audio shop. From about 3500b up to 30000b depending on the manufacturer.

A mirror effect would be nice, i travel through bib territory at evenings frequently.

Any brand names, types that have mirror effect and still are very clear?

Cost is not really a concern, visibility is.

agree tha 3M is good, especially the crystalline series, which gives very good clarity and heat shielding.

+1 on the Crystalline, it keeps the heat out noticeably better than my last film, and visibility is great.

I have 70 on the windshield and 40 on the sides and back.

I had 3m in now i got lamini. We started out with 60% 3m with mirror effect, i found it too dangerous and after a while we changed it to 40% on the windshield and took lamina (that was that the shop recommended and took the best one of that). Might be that there is better stuff out there as this was not the most expensive shop and in a Thai only area.

Why would you have darker on the windshield then on the sides. IMHO 60% was too dark already. But to each his or her own.

The rating of the 3M film (at least the Crystalline) does not indicate the amount of light that is blocked, but rather the amount of light that passes. The 70 is lighter then the 40.

I was happy with the Lamina I had on the last unit, but I like the Crystalline much better.

Then i agree with you.. strange that they different ways of describing the products. Its confusing. Im not sure crystaline was available where i went to replace the film. Just told them to get the best stuff out and that was lamina (at least there and according to them) Im a lot happier now as with the 60% it was scary at night.
