Public Health Ministry prepares 30 emergency medical teams

BANGKOK: -- The Public Health Ministry has prepared 30 emergency medical teams from 15 provinces near Bangkok to deal with injuries occurred during the protest by the Pitak Siam group.

Public Health Minister Pradit Sinthawanarong, Deputy Public Health Minister Chonlanan Srikaew and Permanent Secretary for Health Narong Sahamethapat held a teleconference with chief public health officers of the 15 provinces, asking them to prepare their health facilities on standby until November 30.

Pradit said his ministry opened a situation monitoring room and had prepared 30 fast moving medical units in case of emergency.

Boonlert says police provoke violence with teargas firing

BANGKOK: -- Pitak Siam leader Boonlert Kaewprasit alleged that police tried to infuriate and provoke demonstrators to storm into the Government House compound by firing teargases at them.

Boonlert said the demonstrators did not plan to move around but wanted simply to expand the rally site toward Rajdamnone Road to accommodate the growing number of protesters.

Boonlert said police refused to remove the barricades but fired teargases at the demonstrators without justification.

He said Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra no longer had legitimacy to remain in office because she lacked capability and ethics.

He said the military should come out to help the people now that police have used violence against the people.

Army chief ordered to prepare troops to help police in case of emergency

The Nation

BANGKOK: -- Defence Minister ACM Sukampol Suwannathat has ordered Army chief Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha to prepare troops to assist police to keep law and order should police fail to control the situation, a source said.

The source said Prayuth in turn ordered the First Division, the Second Cavalry Division and the Anti-Aircraft Artillery Division to prepared 8 companies of troops each to provide reinforcements to police when asked to.

Sukampol also ordered the monitoring centre at the Defence Ministry to monitor the situation closely

Boonlert defers decision on rally

BANGKOK: -- Pitak Siam leader Gen Boonlert Kaewprasit said he would wait longer before deciding whether to continue the rally.

He said he initially planned to discontinue the rally at 11 am had the number of protesters been less than 50,000. However, he decided to wait longer because he learned that provincial people were still travelling to join the rally.

Democrat condemns govt over use of teargases

BANGKOK: -- Democrat Party spokesman Chawanon Intharakomalsut condemned the government for having police fire teargases at demonstrators.

Chawanon said the government tried to prevent the people from joining a demonstration although the Pitak Siam announced the rally would be peaceful.

He said the government had police set up checkpoints on all roads to try to block the demonstrators for joining the rally.

The Democrat spokesman said the government must be held responsible for the use of violence and teargas firing against the protesters.

Tul vows to seize Makkawan area

The Nation

BANGKOK: -- Tul Sirisomwong, a leader of the multicolour-shirted group, vowed to lead demonstrators to seize the area at the Makkhawan Rangsang Bridge.

Tul, who joined the rally led by Pitak Siam group, came to talk to police at the police line at the bridge at 12:45 pm, asking police stop blocking the road. But police remained guarding the road and their number was reinforced.

Tul told the police that if the number of protesters grew big enough, he would lead them to seize control of the area. Many protesters were still confronting police at the bridge.

BANGKOK: -- Police on Saturday defended the firings of tear gases at the anti-government protesters at two roadblocks, saying large number of protesters tried to break into the Government House which is restricted areas.

Police spokesman Pol Maj Gen Piya Uthayoh said the protesters failed to follow police's warnings and some of them used nippers to cut the barbwires.

"We have no choice but to fire the tear gases at the protesters," Piya said.

During the confrontation between the protesters and police, five policemen were injured and two others seriously wounded.

The spokesman added police have detained 100 protesters and also confiscated from them knives, 30 bullets of 38mm pistol.
