thecyclist Posted November 26, 2012 Posted November 26, 2012 Planning a trip to Pattaya this coming weekend.while biking around Chonburi a week ago I noticed election posters for some 2nd of December local election in some parts of Chonburi(and Rayong too). Wondering whether there is gonna be one in Pattaya city-don't wanna arrive there and find out that all the bars are closed.
allane Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 Yes, there is an election in Pattaya on that date.
thecyclist Posted November 27, 2012 Author Posted November 27, 2012 Do you happen to know what election that is; And I assume it doesn't matter how "tiny" , there will be no legal sale of alcohol from Sat 6pm to sun midnight?
jbrain Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 I guess ( hope) the election is for the small subdistrict administrations, Orbotors (sp.) , as they are driving around daily in my area with blaring speakers for almost 2 months. They better should spend the money of their campaigns on community services or repairing the roads as they become roadless with the deep potholes.
thecyclist Posted November 28, 2012 Author Posted November 28, 2012 Does that mean that the 'nightlife' shuts down? Will call pattaya tourist information before I head out there by bicycle(From BKK) Pattaya without the nightlife is meaningless
allane Posted November 29, 2012 Posted November 29, 2012 Different parties are running slates of fifteen candidates, so it looks to be a city-wide election. Sometime within the last yr., there were by-elections in two districts, and bars city-wide were reported as being closed on the specified date. So, it is all but certain that the bars will be closed this time.
renogbg Posted November 29, 2012 Posted November 29, 2012 It is the international fireworks competition Friday and Saturday so i don't think they will close the bars.
Guderian Posted November 29, 2012 Posted November 29, 2012 December 2 is a Sunday, so the bars will probably be closed if there is a local election.
thecyclist Posted November 29, 2012 Author Posted November 29, 2012 I called the TAT Pattaya, and they ensured me-for all that is worth-that there are no elections in Pattaya. It could be that there are in some of the areas around Pattaya, like on the other side of Sukhumvit , but not in the city itself

eyebee Posted November 29, 2012 Posted November 29, 2012 I've not seen any political posters here in central Pattaya, and for previous elections they've been all over the place. My guess is that there are no elections in Pattaya itself. So carry on partying...
