I have a work colleague arriving on Sunday and instead of a multi-entry permit he only applied for a single entry, which is not suitable. I have heard this can be changed when he arrives at the airport .

Can anyone tell me where he should go to do this i.e before he comes through immigration or after ? Don't recall actually seeing an immigration office there.

Sorry but do not understand the question.

Are you asking about a Visa or a Re Entry Permit?

He has a non B visa but only paid for the single entry and really needs a multi entry, we could change it after he arrives but would have to do it at Samut Prakan and i'm no fan of that place.

That cannot be changed in Thailand. he must apply for a multiple non-B visa abroad.

The only thing he can get is a multiple re-entry permit, which would keep his orriginal 90 days alive. or apply for a 1 year extension of stay if he qualifies.

He should have applied for a Multi Entry before coming.

All he can do now is apply for a 12 month Extension at Immigration in the area he will be staying providing he qualifies.

He will need documentation from his company.

Thanks for the reply, its the multiple entry permit that needs changing, when you apply in the UK you get 2 choices of entry permit and he chose the cheapest. I heard it can be changed at the airport ?

He chose the cheapest visa, not re-entry permit. The single non-B only allows 1 trip to Thailand and gives him a stay of up to 90 days. The multiple would be valid for 1 year and during that year he could travel an unlimted numebr of times to Thailand, each time he enters Thailand allowing him to stay for 90 days.

The re-entry permit, which you get in Thailand, keeps your original 90 days on entry alive when you leave Thailand. But doesn't add any days.

The legal company our company uses told us he could just change it at airport. Would have been ok but we are off to Langkawi next week and i pointed out that if he joins us his current visa will expire as it is only single entry. Any suggestions ?

He can try to change it tomorrow in the UK., or apply for an extension of stay if meting the criteria mentioned in post 5 by Lite Beer.

Otherwise in the region he will probably only get another single non-B, until he has a work permit.

I understand what your saying now, did not realise there was a non-B for 90 days only, seems about right as he will not be here for more than a couple of months. Seems if he joins our end of year party in Langkawi he will have to apply for an extension of stay, is this possible on his type of visa ?

A Re Entry Permit will keep his current 90 days stay alive if he goes with you.

1,000 Baht from Immigration.

sorry did not see your reply before i answered. Can he get this at the airport and if so where ?

He can get it from his nearest Immigration Office or BKK Airport when leaving after check in.

Not 24 hours I think 6am until midnight.

This does not add time it just keeps his 90 day stay alive.

It's not time added he needs, just the ability to arrive on Sunday and then join us next week in Malaysia and then come back into Thailand, this will be his only time out of Thailand until he goes back to Uk.

Are you saying that when he arrives on Sunday he should go through immigration and customs and the go to the immigration office at the airport, or wait until we check in next week on our way to Langkawi and do it then ?

Our local office is Samut Prakarn and our company are not fans of the place. They moved me to the BOI place for this reason.

At the airport next week after check in.

Personally I would not wait until the last minute and do it at an Immigration Office.

It is a quite straight forward procedure.

Passport size photo needed.

Samut Prakan immigration is in my humble opinion one of the best immigration offices in Thailand. Always kind staff and very fast too.
