App 2 Sd (Move App To Sd) Doesn't Work On Sgs3

Featured Replies

I'm unable to move apps to the SD memory on my Samsung Galaxy S3 (Android version 4.1.1) .

Does someone is able to move apps to SD, or have the same problem?

P.S. I'm using App 2 SD (move app to SD) at: https://play.google....t.gphone.app2sd that claims that this app is compatible with Samsung GT-I9300T.

Just to be sure, Are Apps shown as Moveable on the App2SD?

If not, not knowing what Apps you have on your phone, maybe you don't have any moveable Apps? Or has the recent JB upgrade caused the problem maybe.

Sure, The apps are shown as moveable. And when clicking on them, the app info window opens, but there are no button to move the app.

"ON SD CARD" window, there is a message:

The device does not have a real primary external storage, or primary external storage is emulated.

Moving app to SD function may not be supported by this device.

Might be some sort of bug.

I know the devices with bigger internal memory will see this internal memory as an SD card already.

In my galaxy it's called /sdcard and my external SD card is in that folder and called /external_sd

So it looks like app2SD is thinking the application you want to move is already on the SD card, while in reality you want to move it to the external_sd card.

My previous phone (galaxy Gio) did not have this. There the internal memory was just that, internal memory, and the external memory was that as well, called sdcard. Only one sd card to be found there, unlike the 2 sd cards on my newer galaxy s plus...

I googled the message you are getting and this appears to be a frequent problem for many people...no shortage of blog posts on this issue. I spent about 10 minutes reading some of the posts but the possible reasons, guesses, and fixes seemed to be all over the map. I even checked to ensure the App2SD still worked properly on my Galaxy Ace 2 still running 2.3.6.... and it did still work in moving Apps to the external SD and back to the Phone again if desired. Wish I could offer a suggestion but all the reasons/guesses/fixes out there in google land didn't seem consistent....I know many of them seemed to be wild ass guesses as to the cause of the problem. Good luck and Happy Holidays.

On above screenshot you can see the path is called mnt/sdcard, this is my internal 16GB memory.

After clicking on external_sdcard, I end up as per the picture below.

Which is an external 4GB sdcard...

Is that app compatible with Android 4.1.1?

Is there any particular reason why you need to move apps to the SD card?

This is one of the reasons Google does not have an SD card slot on any of their hardware. wink.png

Not all SD cards are as fast as might be required or up to spec.

Just checked on my phone.

Internal storage is 16GB according to specs.

1.4GB of this is available as system storage, where by default apps get installed in.

12.42 GB of this is listed as "USB storage" and shows up as "sdcard" in my folder explorer.

No idea where the rest of the 16GB is, I assume it's where the firmware is stored.

When I move an app to SD card (using the application manager in settings), it simply moves the app from the 1.4 GB system storage to the 12.42 GB USB storage. It does not move the app to the actual external SD card (4GB in my case).

When for example I check the settings in my camera I can choose the storage to be "my phone" which is in the 12.42 GB USB storage, or on "memory card" which is the actual external 4GB sd card!

This is one of the reasons Google does not have an SD card slot on any of their hardware. wink.png

Google have several very lame excuses for not having MicroSD slots, but that isn't one of them. Their main excuse revolves around the FAT filesystem and it's (lack of) permissions/security.

But the real reason Google continues to shun MicroSD - it doesn't fit in with their vision of the future, where everything is cloud based and they (and the guys providing your internet connection) can get paid over and over again for you accessing your own files. Charging $100 difference between the "8GB" and "16GB" versions a la Apple, is an added bonus.
