Hi,I bought a prepaid sim from true move to access 3g data while on holiday in Thailand using my nexus 7. It was working fine on phuket but I have been having problems on koh lanta and koh phi phi.

It shows the roaming symbol and even though I have roaming enabled I can't access any data. The strange thing is that it works fine if I put the sim card in my wife's iPhone.

I am on the 1gb prepaid plan.

Thanks, Iain.

i do not think its the sim or phone problem, its the network issue, ie the HSDPA 850 or 900(hope i am making sense)

iphone works fine on true h 3g, but htc desire does not, because its 900, not 850

You have a pre-paid TrueMove H SIM?

There are several different versions of the Nexus 7, do you know which one you have?

http://www.google.com/nexus/7/specs/

32GB + Mobile data version only: Unlocked GSM/UMTS/HSPA+

32GB + Mobile data version only: GSM/EDGE/GPRS (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)*

32GB + Mobile data version only: 3G (850, 900, 1700, 1900, 2100 MHz)

32GB + Mobile data version only: HSPA+ 21 Mbps

If you have this one, *, then it will only support GSM data (2G:GPRS/EDGE) while roaming on the legacy 1800 MHz TrueMove network.

If your unit does indeed support 850 MHz 3G, all the others do, then it may simply be a matter of no, or limited coverage. Or maybe you burned through your 1 GB, then used up any remaining balance.

What is the reply to:

*123# CALL or SEND

USSD: *900# SEND/CALL

IVR: *9000 SEND/CALL

SMS: "B" in body, send to 9789

send SMS to 9789 with "b" in the body

Hi,

the sim has truemove-h printed on it.

There is actually only one version of the nexus 7 3g. So all the frequencies listed above are meant to be supported.

I checked my balance and I have 988mb remaining and 40bhat credit.

As I mentioned, the sim works fine in an iPhone and doesn't appear to be roaming.

set it to WCDMA ONLY.. True will latch the best signal if that is the 'old' true then thats what it will go onto.

I dont think this is an option on the nexus 7

As I mentioned, the sim works fine in an iPhone and doesn't appear to be roaming.

So this SIM, when in an iPhone, can connect to TrueMove H 3G? Or is it roaming on to TrueMove 1800 MHz? An when you put it in your Nexus 7 it does not connect to either TrueMove H 3G, or roam onto TrueMove 1800 MHz?

I assume you have ticked Data Roaming in Settings, Wireless & networks, More settings, Mobile Networks, Data Roaming. This would allow you to roam on to the legacy TrueMove 1800 MHz GSM network when you are outside of TrueMove H coverage. Forcing WCDMA is a very bad idea as this will prevent you from roaming onto the TrueMove network.

My best guess is that the unit is faulty, or the APN is not configured correctly.

Has this unit worked acceptably with other SIMs, on other 3G networks?

I am using a samsung galaxy nexus on a True Move sim card that they give on arrival at the airport. I am based in pattaya for a couple of months so purchased the 1.2 gig data package with 10 hours wifi. Wifi is fine although I understand its just 10 hours online so turn off wifi when not needed. I cannot get 3g (hsdpa+15 according to phone settings) to do anything. I have a strong phone signal with an h to indicate HSDPA. I have had a text in thai which I assume confirms that I am on the data package. I read in an older forum that Samsung galaxy nexus does not work on true move. This seems strange as it definitely supports 850mhz and the settings show it is connected. I have used local sims in the phone in russia, egypt and uk of course with no problems. Any ideas?

Do you have a TrueMove SIM? Or a TrueMove H SIM?

TrueMove no longer offer 3G, TrueMove H provides 3G on 850 MHz as a reseller of CAT.

Which mobile data plan did you subscribe to? When did you subscribe?

Can you share any details on the APN settings you are using?

How do you know you are not getting 3G?

Where did you buy your SGN? What is the model number? (Settings, About phone, Model number).

In theory a properly configured SGN (I9250) with a TrueMove H SIM and coverage, you should be getting 3G speeds.

Hi. Its samsung galaxy nexus 19250 running android 4.2.1. I was given the sim as I got off the plane on jan 15 and went to .com centre a few days later to upgrade the data package which cost 500 for 1.25g plus 10 hours wifi. According to my phone settings I am on hsdpa :8 but if I try to use google I get a blank screen, email app hangs, basically anything that needs internet fails. If I turn on wifi and am in range then everything works. The internet package seems to be edge/gprs

Apn

Name true gprs inet (which makes me suspicious)

Apn internet

User name and password = true

Mcc 520

Mnc 99

Authentication none

Apn protocol ipv4

Apn roaming ipv4

Mms settings

Name True gprs mms

Apn mms

User name password true

Mmsc http://mms.trueworld.net:8002/

Mms proxy 10.4.7.39

Mms port 8080

Mcc 520

Mnc 99

Apn type mms

Apn protocol ipv4

Apn roaming p ipv4

When I search for network available networks are

True

52000

Th gsm

Th-dtac

Th act 1900

Th gsm 1800

So I guess I am on truemove as opposed to truemove h and in the about phone section the network is listed as true. Also within the about phonesection the mobile netwrk stae is set at disconnected

Seems easy enough to look at the SIM? rolleyes.gif

But it does appear as though you have a TrueMove SIM so are limited to 1800 MHz GSM data (2G:GPRS/EDGE) as TrueMove does not offer 3G.

If you want 3G then you'd have to get a TrueMove H, AIS/One-2-Call or DTAC/Happy SIM.

Yes definitely looks like the case. But odd that it shows as hsdpa 8 but still does not pass any data at all. I would have expected a slow connection at least but it does not seem to want to do anything

Went to the truemove shop and paid 650 for 2g internet. All working fine now. Put the old gprs sim in my wifes samsung gt-e2120 and now she also has internet although I doubt she will ever use it.
