I Think My Engine Has Blown Up!

Guys, you'll never guess what... It started last night. My friend from the UK is over and I went to show him the problem with the bike and it started. I couldn't beleive it.

It sounds like the issue Neil mentioed with Hydraulic lock.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do next as I daren't drive it incase it happens again. I know these bikes don't have fuel filters and the bike is old, around '96, so it could be from rust in the tank? I heard the rust can get in to the carbs.

I think I will look to rust proof the tank with POR15 and install an in-line fuel filter. I'll also check all the vacuum hoses etc.

Thanks again for all the replies,

Matt.

Are you still thinking of sending me your wheels?

I'm still a bit concerned about driving the bike after this incident, just in case it is hydraulic lock and next time it damages the engine.

VocalNeal - will send you e-mail.

That's good news. You can scratch a catastrophic engine disaster off your list.

I've actually worked the problem out now thanks to the help above.

The petock is broken and leaking fuel. It looks like this is causing a cylinder to fill with fuel and cause hydraulic lock as mentioned my vocalneal above. There is also fuel in my oil, which isn't good!

I've just ordered a new one, so when it arrives it'll be tank off, new petcock, add in-line fuel filter, new plugs, new oil + filter and hopefully I will be back on the road!
