Such a place can be nice, depends on your own and the thai family.

The distance (54 km) to a big city like Udon is not far, but on rural roads it takes 1 hour.

I live not at this place. This answer is only a little helper for the start.

There is also a Thung Yai just south of Kanthaluk by about 2 km. Its a little town but there is a Army post nearby.

It is 64km on the road from the Amphoe town to the center of Udon Thani (major part is on route 22 which looks like a four lane road).

Not great but could be worse.

Udon has basically everything a "farang" needs.

Airport is the one with the most connections in upcountry Isan.

Why are you asking?

If you want to live there, a lot of questions arise / have to be checked (aside from the personal/relation/famil\y things).

How good/bad is rural road 2066?

What are the local shopping options? (where is the next "supermarket", 7/11).

How reliable is the power and water supply?

Fixed internet available?

What are you neighbours like (noise, pollution and so on)?

and and and ...
