Is There A Tesco Lotus In Loei ?

Ok , one for the guys in Loei, I have heard that there is or will be a Tesco Lotus in Loei, and my wife said she saw a Tesco Lotus Lorry on the road towards Loei, and some people from Loei told her that there is or will be a Tesco Lotus there.

I know a few years ago Local store owners had protests against plans Tesco Lotus had of a Superstore in loei, has that changed?

When I was in Loei 1 Month ago I never saw any indication that there would be or is a Tesco Lotus.

I hope there is one actually, saves driving to Khon Kaen. :o

Thanks Costas, any idea when it is opening its doors ?

I was travelling to Khon Kaen to go to Lotus before, 150Kms one way, Loei City = 62 Kms one way, much better.

I live in Amphur Phu Kradueng, having a Lotus in Loei will be good for me, as I'm sure it will be convenient for many people.

MK Suki too, great, maybe a Swensons ice cream outlet too......... :o

am afraid maigo that even living in town, i couldnt tell you when..but seeing that they are finalising the parking lots, and signs are being put up, i'd venture to say this summer...(remember of course that KFC were working on the place till late the night before it opened, cause they had given themselves a deadline...no such mistakes by Tesco...)

will post if i see it

I drove past there today and they now have many signs up for different stores but NO Tesco Lotus signs. What makes you think it is going to be Tesco Lotus? Last rumor I heard is it was going to be a Big C. I doubt that it will be either because the building is too small. I have been hearing SOON from different farangs but have seen nothing. I would love to have either store in Loei.

indeed no Tesco lotus signs, however, in the soi just next to it there is an anouncement that , i am reliably informed, calls for all the shopkeepers/investors in the tesco 'complex' to have a meeting getting their act together, and that has a sign...

of course TiT and i'd be glad to see anything with cheese... :o

There is a Big C, with an MK and Swenssons!!!

I don't think the place is big enough for 2 supermarkets - but you never know...

Costas !! It's a dream come true. I drove past the new store yesterday and indeed Tesco Lotus has their sign up. I said I wouldn't believe it until I saw it and there it was. It appears that it will open soon. My wife said the sign said the end of March. :o

it is indeed good news, however i would not be holding my breath since apparently the previous date was for march the 7th...so, its coming , in the summer, but as to when.... :o

It's good news that Loei has a Tesco Lotus, I used to drive from Phu Kradung to Khon Kaen when I really needed to go to a big store.

MK Suki is always welcome, will there be a Swenssons also ?

I can see it being very good for me, but also expensive as I will be expected to buy MK and Ice cream more often!! :o

It's nice to be out of the humdrum of a city, but it's also good to be able to get to a big shop easier, people in Phu Kradung have to go as far as Nong Hin to get to the nearest ATM machine!!!

Thankyou Lotus.

I was assured by one of the locals that Tesco Lotus was open for business. I made the 55 kilometer journey and GUESS WHAT? It is NOT open. I was going to console myself by taking some KFC home and soon decided that if you are not on a motorcycle there is NO place to park. I went back home empty handed.

Tesco certainly not open, was there 30 min ago.

KFC parking arrangement is poor, but i just park at Tesco's and look angry if anyone tries to say anything... :o

As for Tesco, ugly rumours are surfacing which are not on the promising side..Word is (and that is word that i havent received personally..) that surveyors from tesco came around and left angry, since it appears that whoever has made the building to rent it to tesco, thought it appropriate top pocket 2 mil and produce a roof supported by steel half the diameter of the original specs...dont know what will happen, but will not go there on a windy day :D

if it opens , i'll post

Wasn't that a song by Creedence Clearwater Revival, "Oh, Lord, I'm stuck in old Loei again"?

I'm in Hua Hin, and can attest that the arrival of a huge, modern shopping mall, anchored by Tesco-Lotus and Home-Pro, seems like a godsend for those of us who were frustrated by the rinky-dink stores that may now go bankrupt. We're talking also a KFC, a Sizzler, an MK, Chinese restaurants, and at least 25 specialty shops. Oh, and a Major Cineplex with 4 screens, and a Major Bowl with 8 lanes. It's like the 21st century!

There are many who decry the whole thing as if Wal-Mart just came in, but Hua Hin is growing fast, is a big Euro tourist town, and needed it badly.

Motorcycle parking, you say? Anything larger than a Honda 50 has to make 169 excruciating turns around the steel railings to get in and out of the well-guarded parking. If you're on a 150 or a 200, forget it. Park a block away and walk.

"I wish I had a dollar, for every song I sung, ...stuck in old Loei again."

I don't think Buck had Loei, Thailand in mind when he did that song. As a matter of fact I'd rather be stuck in Loei than Lodi. It's not that bad of a drive to Udon Thani now that I think about it.

Buck Owens passed away on March 25th of this year. I do hope his music lasts forever. :o

I am considering buying my wife a house near Loei and would like some farang information. I own a home in Pattaya but will give this to my daughter when she marries and I might move to the house I purchase unless my wife becomes my ex-wife.

A few questions come to mind concerning Loei:

I understand there is a nine hole golf course there. Do they have golf carts and can the course be accessed easily?

Is there an expat community there and are they generally friendly? I'm from Texas and I like to calmly socialize at a watering hole. Not a drunk though.

What are some land costs around Loei? We are just looking for a couple of rai unless there is a house for sale that we like.

Is the Lotus store open yet?

Any comments you guys that live around there can provide me will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance. :o

The last time I passed the place I didn't see anything at all going on. I have no idea what is happening except there are no longer any workers there.

Just returned from a "marathon" motorcycle trip up thru and around Loei. What beautiful country there is around there thru the mountains, etc. Some spectacular sights.....including this shot of Tesco in Loei. :o Don't know if it's open though, as I was there around 7 AM in the morning. :D

My wife just asked me if I wanted to go to Tesco Lotus today. She said today is the grand opening. I reminded her that she told me the same thing three months ago and that I would wait until someone who has actually been inside confirmed it.

NEVER!

It has been close to two years since this rumor started. Sometime in March of this year Lotus put up their store sign. The official opening date was March 28th 2006. Maybe they actually meant 2007? I said at the time the rumor started that when I can walk in and actually buy something then I'll believe Loei has a Tesco Lotus. :D

I was in Loei last week and was proudly told that a Tesco was opening soon . . . whatever that may mean. :o

Maybe it's a matter of the Thai calendar versus the western calendar. Silly? Yes. But let's not forget where we are.

My answer from Tesco Lotus;

Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you very much for your email and we are very happy to hear that our customers are looking forward to shopping at Tesco Lotus. Our site acquisition team works very hard to find potential sites so we could bring great offers to all customers in Thailand. We are sorry that we cannot reveal any confidential information at this moment, but please come back and check the latest news from our website at www.tescolotus.com

Once again, thank you very much.

Best regards,

Yesterday I talked to a supposedly in the know farang. He told me that the fiasco was in litigation so Lotus cannot release any information. The story goes that the original builder had money problems so Lotus rescued him. After the building was completed Lotus inspected it and found that the builder did NOT make the roof to Lotus specifications. The Loei city building inspectors apparently agree with Lotus so where it will go from here is anyone's guess.
