I think that 99 percent of Australians will be backing Green for a win and hopefully he will. Mind you if he does win I reckon that Motormouth Mundine will be blaming Racism for his loss.

AUSTRALIA cricket captain Ricky Ponting has retracted comments he made that Bangladesh do not deserve Test status.

"Looking back, I think I was wrong," Ponting told reporters yesterday ahead of the start of Australia's maiden cricket tour of the South Asian nation.

"I was speaking from an ideal point of view and not about the growth of the game in world cricket. That is where I made a mistake," he said.

"We want to see the game go ahead and maybe Bangladesh having Test status will take it forward."

Bangladesh, ranked lowest among the 10 Test-playing nations, lost both previous Tests it played against world No.1 Australia.

The first Test starts tomorrow at Fatulla, near Dhaka. The second begins on April 16 in Chittagong.

On a serious note here regarding test status I always wondered how the 'lesser nations' were supposed to learn the game at the highest level without test status.

Sure Bangladesh have been walkovers in the past but then so were India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka in their early days in test cricket.

Players need exposure at this level to learn the game. Even if they don't make an impct themselves they at least gain the experience to pass on to developing players.

Well Done Bangladesh and although I see Aus still winning this game the have shown that they are improving year by year.
