Seems there is different types of arthroscopic surgery. When I had mine done 12 years ago. I got up and walked away feeling great it lasted about ten years.

Last one i had in the UK ,3 small incisions one stitch in each one ,Bandaged for 2 weeks walked out of hospital following morning very little pain.

Dr Chanakarn off the pinned list, is one of only two doctors in Chiang Mai that do arthroscopic meniscectomy. Nice guy, switched on with perfect English. He's often in the USA for lectures or elsewhere, but catching him isn't usually a problem. Don't book to see him at Rajavej as he's a bit hit and miss depending on his surgical load. Make an appointment to see him at his own clinic, it will only cost a couple of hundred baht plus some xrays around the corner at Rajavej.

An arthrotomy involves cutting into a joint and a long period on crutches plus extensive rehab is usually necessary.

I can vouch for Dr Chanakarn. My needs were not the same as yours but my experience might help you.

I saw him at Ram a couple of years ago and he was very professional and fast. I went to him on the Wednesday, immediately had x-rays and scans, a sonar two days later and he called me on the Sunday afternoon and even apologised for disturbing my weekend!. I was treated the following Wednesday.

I could never have received service like that anywhere else that I have lived.

Pleased to hear you had good results with him. smile.png
