Him later stating that he did nothing wrong means absolutely nothing. Many sociopaths think there was nothing wrong with their prior misdeeds.

I am sure many people out there falsely accused of a terrible crime would go to heaven and earth to profess their innocence, with much more conviction than trying the terminal illness sympathy ploy.
