Following the helpful advice given to me by lopburi3, theoldgit, Maestro and Lite Beer on the thread at http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/611007-if-90-day-report-late-get-red-stamp-or-anything/, I duly posted my completed TM47 + required attachments last Wednesday (20th). EMS tracking subsequently confirmed safe receipt at Maptaput PM the following day (Thursday 21st). Maptaput processed the TM47 the day after (Friday 22nd), and I duly received my s.a.e back with the receipt notification on Monday (25th).

All in all a very fast and efficient service on Maptaput’s part, I think - and in stark contrast to my previous frustrating experiences of reporting in person, as described on the thread I originated at http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/590560-maptaput-rayong-immigration/. I can therefore
strongly recommend this method of reporting to fellow Rayongites – in particular, to those for whom a 2-hour return drive for the purpose of reporting in person is necessary (as in my case).

However, one thing I noticed about my latest receipt notification is that it contained a barcode in the top right-hand corner with a code consisting of 1 alpha + 11 numerals underneath. Since none of my previous notifications have contained a barcode, might this have something to do with my reporting this time by mail instead of in person as previously? Or do all notifications issued by immigration offices now include a barcode as a matter of course, regardless of the reporting method?

In particular, if the barcode contains sensitive personal information, what chances are there of it being readable by any Tom, Dick or Harry with the means of swiping it, such as a Tesco Lotus checkout assistant?

Many immirgation offices start now to issuing barcodes, so they can process everything quicker by computer.

further he needs to look on his TM-6 card, this has a barcode as well and the information you put on this is almost exactly the same information as your 90 day report, with the exception of the tel number...think the gentleman doth paranoia too much...

I got one but at my latest check they were not interested in it, i even pointed it out to the guy. Nope kept doing it manually.

Well, the current TM6 departure card stapled to my passport certainly doesn't contain any barcode! And, given the general laxness of security practices followed here in LOS, aren't I entitled to be a tad concerned?

The bar code just has immigration's file number on it. Not personal info.

My TM6 does not have a bar code but it is almost 5 years old.

There certainly is a bar code... right hand side under the heading Thai immigration bureau, below the bar code is an id number which comprises two letters and 5 numbers...looking a mine right now..

as regards the lax security in Thailand I would be more worried about the copies of the data pages of your passport which are on file in various goverment dept, than the information, if any, contained in a bar code on a 90 day report...wink.png

As will be the bar code on the 90 day report...

No bar code on my TM6. I was referring to bar code on TM47 receipt.

I am guessing that bar code on your TM6 is same as it's number.

Maybe the 'bar code' is just for postal reports as I did my 90 day report in person a couple of weeks ago, at Maptaphut, and have no bar code on my notification.

Also my TM6 has no barcode, it is very old though and usually causes merriment at Immigration.

I do mine a MPT in person and think I have had 1 occassion where the thing had a bar code, latest one doesnt, but certainly have had one or two with them...so maybe its just case of what is too hand...biggrin.png

^ You're probably right. I always take a pre completed TM47 with me so they just tear a piece off and staple it in. Personally have never had a bar code , but from reading threads on here have been expecting one sometimes.

My current barcode-less TM6 was issued when I last entered Thailand on 2 May 2012. Would I be correct in believing that you have entered Thailand from abroad since then?

At least passport data pages don't, to the best of my knowledge, include personal address and contact information, but only details of where you've been and when - which, I'm sure, MI5, MI6 & their counterparts in other countries find extremely riveting in my case.
