Hi

I will be staying few months in Pattaya (pratumnak area) and was wondering if I should take the fixed internet (as the landlord recommend),

or would there actually be 3G cellular internet access available from some operator that would be "good enough" for not too heavy internet

use, with unlimited us (or large data cap)?

whether it is fixed or cellular, can the service be biught month by month, or is there e.g one year minimum?

What is the cost of the fixed line service? Mobile Internet can be obtained via a PrePay SIM, so no minimum term is necessary.

I have understood fixed line is 599/mo, however not clear if have some minimum (e.g one year) that would need to buy.

For the mobile, do you know how the data caps are? or unlimited in some data subsriptions?

They will be very poor in comparison to a fixed line. For perhaps for the same price as the fixed line option, you will get 2GB of data after which you transfer speeds will slow down considerably until the end of the month. On the other hand, if you are only here short term, it might be a good option for you. If a package with more data is needed, it is available, though at a higher price.

OK, thanks. So I'd better go for fixed from get-go

Depends on your likely usage pattern and whether you will be expected to pay for the fixed line costs for the year in advance, regardless of whether you will be there for the year.

The largest package that you can purchase using mobile broadband is via TRUE-H. 10GB at full speed, with then slows down to EDGE type speeds for the rest of the month. 1699 baht.

I use a 7GB data package via AIS/One2Call as a backup, costing 999 baht for a month. After the 7GB of full speed data is used up, it slows down until the month is up.

3BB (fixed line ADSL) apparently require a 12-month contract now. If I understood correctly, True ADSL can be done on a month-to-month basis, but I think to get a free modem and free installation you need to commit to six months. Not sure about TOT/CAT.
