Septoplasty Surgery To Correct A Deviated Nasal Septum

Featured Replies

Anyone have any experience with Septoplasty surgery to correct a deviated nasal septum? Thinking of having this surgery as I have tried nasal sprays and dscongestants to relieve a blocked nose when sleeping.I have been advised by many ENT doctors over the years about this surgery to correct my deviated nasal septum but have tried other methods without too much success. The doctor sais it will be a 3 day hospital stay with the splints removed on the third day.

Anyone have any information or experience with this?

my hb has the same problem, asked about the cost of the op in bamrungrad and 7 years ago it was 120k !!! Too much of a cost. His friend did it in private hospital in Germany for 2000euro, i thought it should be less in Bkk since everything else is.

I hope it is fair to point out that the outcome of this procedure is uncertain and benefits may also be short lived. There are many testimonials on this site that report very positive outcomes, and so does one of my friends, however another says the gain was marginal and temporary.

Many years ago I was advise against surgery as the GP I spoke to said the architecture of my nose was not suitable, in that the septum was only marginally bent and I had narrow nasal passages anyway. He even said it could worsen the problem. Maybe things have changed since then, I don't know.

I understand laser surgery is now possible, to trim turbines anyway and this may be a better approach.

Lastly, as a point of logic that is often overlooked, if you don't have an appreciable problem in your birth country, then you do not really have a medical condition, more a lifestyle issue.

Good luck, from a fellow sufferer.

For the record, my septoplasty several years ago (at BNH in Bangkok) has been an unqualified success. No bad side effects, but greatly improved air flow in one nostril while not affecting the other. As stated above, though, "your mileage may vary."

Recovery from the surgery was quick and the only tedious part was placing saline drops in the cotton packing several times a day until the cotton was removed -- I think it was on day #3 that that occurred. Once the cotton was removed -- all was well.

If you haven't done this surgery yet, you can try to visit Dr. Somyos, he is a plastic surgeon and also and ENT specialist. I did my nose with him 4 years ago for my hooked nose ans snoring problem and I'm happy with the result.

I paid $5,500 four years ago, and it included 3 nights in their nearby hotel. Dr. Somyos owns a private clinic near the big central mall. The name of the clinic is Yoskarn Clinic.
