First test, first day, lunch - S Africa 4/66.

Australia has found a new Glen McGrath. Clark (not Lewis before edit) 6 overs, 2 maidens, 3/13. Every ball right on the spot. His first 3 victims in test cricket - Smith ©, Kallis (best in the world) and Gibbs (pretty good)

Rememeber at the half way stage last match OC you were full of confidence - this game only 1/4 done. Dont count your chickens yet!

Kallis not the best bat in the world - he is far too selfish for that!

Lara Ponting Dravid Inzaman - at least - are ahead of him.

I'm not full of confidence about the result yet Mitty, just enjoying the ride at this stage. :o

I don't think Kallis is the best either, but the Yarpies claim him to be based on his test batting average of 57.24. He also has 189 wickets at 31.64. Certainly the best all rounder.

Of course his batting average is inflated by 893 runs against minnows Bangladesh and Zimbabwe at an average of 223.

I think Ponting is easily the current best in the world based on his 1544 runs last calander year at an average of 67.13 :D

(latest score SA - 205, Oz - 1/63)

Think we are forgetting about a certain Andrew Flintoff!!

OK his stats don't compare but thats coz it took him a long time to settle - over the last couple of years he's been inspirational. Bowling, batting and fielding and a complete team man who inspires others around him. Given the choice between Kallis and Flintoff on the Ozzy team would you really pick Kallis (and don't say you are happy with Symonds!).

Aus are looking good but SA's problem is that they simply do not have the firepower to unsettle the Aussie batsmen.

Where is the young blood in South African cricket? They are going to have an even bigger gulf to fill than the Aussies when the seniors hang up their pads and thats saying something.
