I want to buy a good bicycle in Pattaya.

Looking for something of good quality, but not one of those titanium frame

carbon fibre wheel, ten thousand dollar jobs ... just something which will

last more than a couple of trips without falling to bits.

I'm also looking for a 4/10 double barrel shotgun pistol to deter the

soi dogs, which will, I am sure have a go at me. :o

Just joshing ... Serious about the bike though ! ... anyone know ?

Cancel the shotgun pistol !

Me Ole Aussie mate just offered me a couple of his Aussie Pig Dog pups.

Seems the're a cross between a bull terrier and a Puma,

reckons he can train them to follow me bike and provide protection. :o

Still want a bike supplier though !

There is really only one shop where you should buy a mountain bike if you are the slightest bit serious about it.

Shops name is Numchai, they are on the highway by the footbridge in Naklua on the south bound carriageway.

The man's name is Pon. He is a serious biker and has a good range of branded bikes in farang sizes, by that I mean if you are a normal european size around 5'10 you would want a 19" frame if you are 6' you will have a 21" frame. The local shops all sell Thai sizes which are 15" and 17" frames. Wheels are all 26" They should be Aluminum NOT steel and you should look for an aluminum frame with some Shimano parts.

Trust me I know about Mtn Bikes, I imported and sold the rotten things in Stinkypore for 10 years...

An ordinary bike water bottle makes a good water squirter for dogs, and they hate it. Failing that carry one of the pepper sprays out of Foodland.

2 of the shops in that local sell high quality aluminum alloy bikes for SERIOUS bikers, with high-end Shimano... the works!

Best advice is to shop around for prices.

Sport shop inside Festival Centre (Big C) also have a few average models on display.

Where was your shop in Singas Rimmer?

In Henry Park off, Holland Grove Road.

Also had one in Selegie Road,

Also one at Crown Centre, Bukit Timah and

one for a short time in Clementi.

Closed them all now and the only one remaining is in Dempsey Road behind Sammys Curry.

Thanks guys.

Rimmer, I'm 6'2 so will need that big frame. :o

A thought occured to me, you are talking Mtn. Bike for road or off road use right?

Pure road bike frames use a different measurement and can be a lot more expensive.

At 6ft 2" you would idealy need a 21" or 22" frame. The size should be shown with a sticker on the seat tube somewhere. I am 5ft 10 and ride a 19" frame.

The larger size frames also give you a longer top tube which means you can spread your upper body out and your lungs will work properly, also your knees will not collide with the handlebars when you turn. Your leg should be just bent at the knee when you sit on the saddle, you will not be able to touch the ground from that position.

Typically a 19" frame will give you a 22" top tube measured center to centre. A 22" frame would indeed be a big beast and may be hard to find.

You can effectivly adjust the length of the top tube space by fitting a different length bar stem, IE. A stiff neck will mean you have too long bar stem. A sore butt will mean you are throwing weight on your saddle and the stem is too short. Your body should be balanced between hands and butt. Easy to fit different length bar stems.

A small undersized frame will mean the you are cramped up in the 'cockpit' but worse the seat post will be almost out of the seat tube and will eventually break off the top of the seat tube (frame)

At the end of the day whatever bike you get it will give you hours of fun and burn calories like nothing else. :D

I know nothing about bikes, but yesterday I saw 3 or 4 pretty impressive looking machines in that 2nd hand shop in Carrefour, Pattaya Klang.

If you have a limited budget, might be worth a looksy. Or better still, get Rimmer to check'em out. :o
