Question: why is I-Mobile releasing so many models? Surely this is going to be difficult to support?

My view on I-Mobile: quality better than some other Thai brands, but not as good as tier one brands (eg Samsung/LG/etc). Figure you get what you pay for: don't expect good support if you get any issues, eg loans phones while yours is being repaired, etc. I like to change my phone every 9 months so can't justify 20/30k for a phone anyhow (and they sometimes get nicked). Wife recons I-Mobile want a bigger pie of the smartphone market here, hence so many models.

I've been on the brink of buying one for some time, but what keeps putting me off is the baffling product range they have. Not only is it vast, it is in a constant state of flux - just getting a grip of it and then it all changes. Hard to make head nor tail of which one to buy, unless you are a 16 year old or unless you enroll for a month's intensive study at their HQ.

i-Mobile is part of the SAMART Corporation. They did re-establish their MVNO business with TOT (2100 MHz) last year by signing a new 5-year contract to re-sell 40% of TOT's capacity. Selling hardware, along with some bundled services via their retail channel, is a part of their strategy. They probably don't make a lot of margin on their products but do need to ramp up their volume in order to meet commitments to suppliers. They also have to create custom software/UI - albeit based on android, docs, stock spares, provide support, repair, sales and marketing.

The "get what you pay for" applies even with budget manufacturers like i-mobile so the rule of thumb is their most expensive device = their latest and top of the range.

Yes, their naming conventions were very stupid - especially when they used a "Q" in both their premium and budget ranges (IQ5 vs iStyle Q5).

They dropped the 'Q' from their budget range so now, their flagship phone is the IQ6 and their latest 'budget' phone is the i-Style 7. Easy.

Go for it and buy the model you fancy. Let's admit it won't last for ever and you will be looking for a better model in years time. Think I am on my 7th Android phone (first one was a G1 running 1.6 of Andriod ). I highly recommend the IQ 5.1!
