BMA to spend Bt50 million to beautify city

BANGKOK: -- The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is going to spend more than Bt50million on beautifying the capital in preparations for visits by HM the King Bhumibol Adulyadej's guests on the occasion of His Majesty's 60th Year on the Throne.

BMA deputy spokesman Jakrapan Pornnimit Tuesday said the landscape of inner Rattanakosin Island would be decorated with flowers and decorative plants under Bt23million budget.

In addition, he said a constructor would be hired to produce 31 decorative arches in honour of His Majesty under Bt30.3million.

"The arches must be completed within April 6," he said.

Bangkok Governor Apirak Kosayodhin also ordered that pamphlets on the arches' meaning and locations be made and distributed to members of the public.

In a related development, government spokesman Surapong Suebwonglee said the renovation of Chakri Throne Hall should be completed in May in time for June 23 when His Majesty was scheduled to host a reception ceremony for the monarchs of various countries and their spouses.
