So far ok for me too, but I rather upgrade my travelling experience by not worrying about whether they hold...

It might be easier/cheaper just to buy new ones

I know... but I hate to throw away things which with a minimal effort and money can be re-used or repaired... environmental friendly as well

Cable ties are great. If your suitcase has a plastic zipper, it can easily be opened anyway and resealed without you knowing. Kinda defeats the purpose of a lock.
