Fourteen suspects were arrested over anti-Muslim violence in Okkan Township, which claimed the life of one resident, Eleven Media reported on Sunday. The suspects were arrested on May 8, local police sources said, and are due to be interrogated in the coming days. In total, police said, 39 suspects had been arrested with eight released on bail. The violence in Okkan started after Buddhist mobs rampaged through Muslim villages, burning down buildings and hacking at Muslims with swords. The attacks were sparked when a minor altercation between a novice monk and a Muslim woman led to tempers flaring.
