stix9
I would appreciate some guidance in what strategies and actions may be effective in inducing a TG to return $5000 she stole from my room after breaking into my locked suitcase just after I arrived back in Thailand. She has made a full written admission to the theft by leaving a note in my suitcase admitting she stole my money and stated in that same note that she was a bad person. A strange twist !!! She claims to be overseas now and is not interested in returning my money because she says she will marry some farang and not return toThailand ever again. Her father is a school teacher near Hua Hin. She was a receptionist at a Novotel hotel in Bkk at the time of the theft. I would like to publically post her identity and details to alert anyone else about her true character. She first contacted me through a well known internet dating site and came across as a genuine cleanskin, non drinker, non smoker, good job, not into partying and an enthusiastic temple goer. I suspect she uses/used the dating site to meet and fleece others. I have her full identity and contact details including her past skype contacts. I understand that I need to engage a Thai lawyer to approach Police with my certified translated complaint to initiate the criminal process , which at the end of the day may only result in her arrest and conviction as she has no defence but may not result in any return of my funds. chiang mai
You need a police report, without that you don't stand much chance of doing anything - be prepared also that the police may not want to get involved for a number of reasons, she's out of the country, they will think it's small change, girlfriend etc etc. Good luck. craigt3365
DO NOT post personal details here. They will be removed anyway as it's a violation of forum rules. As for your situation, best to just write it off and move on. You're lucky it was only 5k. Let's move this over to the Farang Pub for a more "lively" discussion. stix9
This is a clear case of theft as she has left a written admission that she stole the money. I am considering posting an ad in a Hua Hin paper offering a reward for information on her whereabouts leading to her arrest and conviction. Any thoughts on this angle ? rubberduck
She claims to be overseas now and is not interested in returning my money because she says she will marry some farang and not return toThailand ever again. She's not abroad, just a totally irresponsible and impulsive idiot who talks bullshti. She's so stupid that she expects you to accept it more easy by telling she's overseas. There are lot's of very good Thai girls, but in LOLS there is also a huge number of this typical kind of twisted minds. welsh1
Good luck with the trying to find out where your X GF is. Placing adverts in the local paper, hiring a private detective to try and track her down. You will end up paying more money, and the only response you will get from people who know her is, Mai Roo Mai Roo. Consider it a dear lesson in life and just move on. PS, that's why they have shower caps in the bathroom, so you can put your money on your head, and use a shower cap to keep you money safe and dry. chiang mai
One more time: you wont get an arrest and a conviction unless you first get a police report and trying to get a report a year from now when you finally find her, simply wont happen.. Gsxrnz
Do you really have her ID details? As in a copy of her Thai ID Card, Drivers License or Passport? Or just a name that she gave you.? I would say you don't have a sparrow's chance of getting the police to take any interest in it unless you involve the media. Go and see an English newspaper and go with them to report the theft to the police. They'll take some pics and if you have a photo of her or her ID card, the media will lap it up. Downside - you'll be named and a pic of you will also be in the paper. My advice - dollars to doughnuts she'll have a Facebook account, track it down and devote the rest of your life to character assassination......or......forget about it and just hope that fate deals her a bad hand by way of a large fast moving bus or something similar. Did she have big knockers? If not you could probably find her at the local plastic surgeon's office as we speak! EDIT: I could be wrong in my following assumptions so maybe the OP can clarify. How do you know anything she told you is true? Did you see her at work, have you met her father? It's probably all a fabrication. If all you have is a handwritten "name" or business card etc. that is not a recognised form of ID, and maybe some pictures, you have virtually nothing to give the police anyway. rubberduck
There are lot's of very good Thai girls, but in LOLS there is also a huge number of this typical kind of twisted minds. Systematically refusing any responsibility for their actions and make use of it. Rotten educational system that programmed them with all kind of pathetic bs, 'buddhism' that has hijacked the last part of their free mind, spoiled by parents, spoiled by farang, 'broken heart' etc. makes them feel mentally outlawed. My first exgf in bangkok basically is a very good woman, one with a so called 'golden heart', loving, sweet and caring, university graduate and business accountant for many years. Just a bit too serious and over-worrying, but we had fun together and I loved her sense of humour. She so happy with me, loved me sooooo much. So much that she was always affraid of loosing me, me getting totally bored with her being a 'decent' but frigid lady. After several years of LDR (long-distance relationship) me moved to Changmai where soon I feld really satisfied with a simple Chiangrai bargirl who came live with me. When she found out soon hell broke out she showing the same behaviour as above, very mean and rotten behaviour suddenly came to the surface. 'you made me tingtong so I can do whatever I want now'. A relational total mess even war with on both sides 'friends' getting involved and treathening eachother with death, the lady hiring a tuktuk guy to spy on me etc. etc. Very big tears when it all settled down, 3 suicide attemps in two months calling me from the hospital with 'I am dying now', a totally broken poor girl. I feld sorry for her but not for my decision to quit with this muy complicado. It's 15 years ago now but she is still won't go to Chiangmai because of its bad spirits who will prey on her... Now we are just close friends, she 46 years old and a lovely, lonely virgin...
pattayadingo
Chase all you like. Follow her on Facebook or wherever. Advertise, use lawyers and pay the court fees for a conviction. Will that satisfy you? Because you will spend a lot of time, effort and money to get nothing back, especially if she has no assets.

I am considering posting an ad in a Hua Hin paper offering a reward for information on her whereabouts leading to her arrest and conviction. Any thoughts on this angle ? Does she have any brothers or other male friends? You make her and her family lose face and they might well track you down and rearrange your legs, or worse. Move on, and learn to not leave cash, higher than your daily needs, in your apartment, anywhere in the world. Also learn that 'dating sites' have dangers. How many people in the world, who use dating sites, are totally honest about the details they lodge??? Edited May 15, 2013 by scorecard
Nowhereman60
Seems silly to leave $5,000 in your suitcase. Seems she knew where to look, she must have gotten that information somewhere. Like from you.

yourauntbob
5000 USD in your suitcase??? sorry, but that is not a smart move. its going to be an uphill battle here trying to recover anything and that is why so many do it so flagrantly. getting a police report would be the first step after that your guess is as good as mine. good luck to you. next time keep the money in the bank and just pay the ATM charges
farangme
Ever hear of a bank? Carrying around large amounts of cash is asking for trouble. Broke into a locked suitcase? Sounds like a pro, not a 'nice' girl. Forget the money. It's gone. Don't go looking for trouble, lest trouble find you. Live and learn. He very bad man. (more tears). Thai lady would not do bad thing like that." Foreign man removed from court and never seen again. sunshine51
Stix9... 01...Are you new at traveling anywhere away from your city of birth? 02...You should have put the money into a bank here in LOS since I presume it was $5000 USD and not Rs5000(Indonesian Rupiah). For your sake I hope it wasn't 5000 Euros...but it doesn't really matter now does it? It's gone and there's sweet FA you can do to get it back. 03...Why didn't you have sex with her? At least if you had then you could chalk it up to an expensive escort fee and get on with life. 04...Back in your home country/city would you leave $5000 in a suitcase in your hotel room? 05...Do you have a photo of this girl to show the police? That is... if you ever do decide to make a police report. I bet you cannot describe her in a manner the police will be able to do anything with. 06...You're money is gone. You will never see it or any part of it again...nor the girl. 07...Sorry to say this but you must be stupid or naive or both. Good luck in life.
