The cyclone threatening to lash Bangladesh and southwestern Burma seems to have weakened, although it still poses a risk to about 8 million people in Bangladesh and Burma, the UN said in an emergency update on Tuesday. The storm, currently making its way north in the Bay of Bengal, is expected to make landfall on Friday morning near Chittagong, Bangladesh, sparing Burma from its full force. “The cyclone does appear to have weakened and it has been downgraded to a category 1 cyclone,” the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said in a statement on Tuesday.
