Route From Chonburi To Petchaburi

Featured Replies

Anybody knowledgeable out there who could spare a few minutes to give me some road directions? I want to drive from Chonburi to Petchaburi but I haven’t travelled it before. I have a road map but on it the route looks complicated and I won’t have a navigator. When I’m going north from Chonburi on the ring road I find it simple to follow signs for Bang Pa-in and, returning south, the signs for Bang-Na. Is there anything similarly uncomplicated for the road from Chonburi to Petchaburi – and the return? Thanks.

It's been a while since I've driven in this area so I'll do the best I can: Try the big, elevated highway (number 3 I believe) which runs out of the Pattaya area to Bangkok. Simply stay on this road till you get to BKK then look for the sign which says "Dao Khanong" (this is on the Thonburi side of the river). Once you cross the river, stay on that road. This is the main route to the South and it will take you straight through Petchaburi. Good luck!

Just follows what Thaiboxer said, once you cross the Rama 9 cable bridge over chao praya river, just head straight to Rama 2 road, drive pass samut sakhon province you will reach Petchaburi.

Many thanks - and to Thaising also. This will be very helpful.

The elevated highway is number 34 it runs from Chonburi onward. There is a small toll but well worth it for the lack of traffic.

as for the rest......Yes, follow Dao Khanong

the route south is 35.....

Good advise already but route 35 (also called Rama 2) ends well North of Petchaburi and you get on the main north/south highway 4. Just following the signs to Petchaburi. Be aware traffic is very congested at the expressway/bridge in Bangkok but other than that a nice drive.

Just to report that I followed the advice and the journey in both directions was very straightforward. I also experienced the congestion you warned about at the bridge and at a couple of other places on my return journey but, as I knew I was on the right road, thanks to advice of you guys, I was reasonably relaxed about it. Thanks again to all of you.

Incidentally, I have a Michelin Motoring Atlas of Thailand and while I find it quite good otherwise, I notice that none of its maps show Dao Khanong, and yet that is the key location that appears in all the highway signs.

Dao Kanong is the area where the Expressway starts or ends.

Nothing to see there or even worth mentioning.
