Extending Visa And Work Permit In Ubon Ratchathani/phibun Mangsahan

Hello,

I just went through the amazing process of extending my visa and work permit in Ubon and Phibun Mangsahan and would like to share my experiences with you.

Had to go for a TOEIC first, ( non native English speaker, 1,500 baht in Bangkok). For the second round, they want to see a Thai culture awareness test/course.

Sent ALL and I mean all documents I had, ( as they'd like to see that you'd a sort of approved) to the TCT, http://www.ksp.or.th/Khurusapha/en/

I'd tried to call them, as nobody at my school had told me that the letter was sent to the director. I found out that the phone number's scrambled up, just the last two numbers. ( Guess they don't want to receive too many phone calls).

They were very helpful and it took only a few minutes to get the needed information, including the EMS code.

Then the first mistake, driving to the labor department. Okay, you'll have to go to Immigration Phibun Mangsahan first, which we did. ( Scared of the not so friendly boss there, mentioned in other forums before, which got me a 2 week suspension from TVF)

We were four and it took many hours to be successful. The unfriendly female officer must have been replaced by a much better person, also female.

They want to see all sorts of documents, the original contract, must me the right size of photographs etc...

A Norwegian guy had been there since 9.30 in the morning to renew his visa, which worked well for the last seven years. I felt very sad for him, his little son and wife, when they sent him back home to get the yellow house papers changed.

A Thai had made a mistake regarding his first name, ( instead of a f was a u).It was already 6 pm when they'd made this questionable decision to get back to the Amphur first, get the letter changed, just to come back to the trustworthy Immigration.

.We'd arrived late, around 3.30 pm, they'd to work overtime, because of us......they put stamps on all documents we'd already signed and in intervals of ca. 15 minutes each of us had to sign a document again and again.

There were no other customers beside the poor Norwegian guy and it took more than 3.5 hours to have the new visa in my passport. Temperatures of around 50 degrees Celsius made it almost impossible to be in this room, they had just moved upstairs to the second floor.

The next day back to the labor department in Ubon. One of us applied for the first work permit, of course the wrong size of photographs. I held the old type and they told me they'd give me a new work permit on Monday without asking for photographs, or a signature on the new wp.

All in all a real pain in the butt, but life's life. And life sometimes s.......( seems to be unfair.) Good luck for all who have to go to Phibun soon. .-wai2.gif
