What are best places in Pattaya to buy external hard disks? Thanks

Probably TukCom IT center (South Pattaya Road, one block down from the Friendship Supermarket).

The 3rd/4th Floors are filled with computer shops. The 5th floor has a large appliance store that sells computers and accessories on one end as well.

I tried to visit www.tukcom.com but that website is down. Any other places? Any computer shops that have website with pricelists? Thanks

http://www.jib.co.th/

I think they may have a branch in tuk com but will give you an idea anyway.

If you walk round Tuk com a lot of the shops have extensive price lists hanging above the counter, they have all the external cases etc in abundance in there. By the way don't buy one made in China make sure it was made in Singapore.

I'm sure the posted Pattaya places will have them, but if you have any problems, I bought one in Pan Tip and one in Fortune City in BKK. Very cheap, fast and efficient - complete with USB cables and 'leather' carrying cases.

Can't do without them. All my Pictures on one and all my music on the second, together with backups of text files from my pc hard disc. Keeps the memory usage on the pc very low. :o

www.jib.co.th had only 3 external hard drives.

Any other websites?

Any Macintosh dealers in Pattaya?

Harry,

You buy a bog standard hard drive and put it in what they call on JIB an 'external box'. So Check hard drives then check 'external boxes'.

d3

yes - you buy hte case and put a hard drive in the case. 2 sizes of case , desktop hard drive and laptop hard drive.

I think the desktop cases need an external power supply to run them while the laptop dives cases will run from usb power ( as long as the power is not being drageed down by another heavy power device )

the interface to the computer can be either USB2 or IEEE1394 ( firewire ) or have both. though you can now buy cases that accept hard drives and act as a 802.11 ( WiFi ) server.

...and it costs around 1,000 for the external box without the HDD. Tukcom is the place you want to go. The webpage might be down, but the place is up.

... though you can now buy cases that accept hard drives and act as a 802.11 ( WiFi ) server.

Pretty cool. Any indication of price?

the only place I have seen them in thailand is pantip - 2nd floor , south eastern corner - and between 2-4k baht (w/o HD ) depending on features. They require power supply . pretty sure they are a full wifi access point.

price is good considering when they came out about a year ago they were 200USD sans HD.

2k baht wouldn't be too bad considering a standard USB2 box cost around 1k. 4k would be more than I personally would find it worth.

No ... Now get your lazy tush down to TukCom this minute :o:D:D:D

naka.
