Tot Internet

Featured Replies

I have moved to Chai Chet and Tot internet is not working correctly. Their modem looses connection all the time. Connected and then the ADSL is off (up and down). I can log into the modem at 192.169.1.1 so I am sure that the modem is not the problem. The ADSL is off and on all the time.

The tech guys came several time with their truck and fixed nothing. I have seen them trying to fix internet in other place too.

In Bangbao, since a very strong thunderstorm that damaged many electric appliance everywhere, I see their truck everywhere checking cables.

I wonder if anyone knows if there is a problem with Tot network? or it is just an isolated case.

It's raining a lot at the moment. Internet on koh chang goes down every single time it rains, then it takes some time to work again after the rain stopped. Better get some 3G for rainy season. Best if you have a smart phone that supports a personal hot spot so you can connect your laptop or any other device as well.

I have 3G but of course after 3 Gigs of use, they throttle the speed down... it makes it quite hard to work for me.

Anyone using Fiber Optics? I heard that they have cabled part of the Island?

  • 4 weeks later...

I would really appreciate if anyone here can clarify with regards to Koh Chang. Yes you can now get fiber optic to the home from TOT. That gives better speed but I'm not sure about reliability if the only difference is the type of cable that carries the signal from the exchange to the home as I imagine that is not the section where the reliability problems occur....?

Also some parts of Koh Chang you can't get a new TOT phone line as they are at capacity, could this also apply to fiber to the home?

Where is the TOT office?

Where is the CAT office?

Where in Trat can I buy a dual WAN load balancing router?

Cheers

And I forgot to ask does anyone know if CAT and TOT actually have separate backbones coming onto the island from the mainland?

No. TOT does not have true fiber optic cable anywhere on Koh Chang. If they told you otherwise then they are lying. The subsea cable installed years ago is not capable of handling the present demand and the terrestrial lines are overloaded also. CAT leases 'their' lines from TOT

Yes and no. Depends on where you are on their 'wait list'

Where is the TOT office?

In Pearl Beach behind the post office

Where is the CAT office?

In Trat

Where in Trat can I buy a dual WAN load balancing router?

At the TOT office

Cheers

Any more questions?

Thanks

How and when will the internet situation on koh Chang improve? I'm more interested on reliability than speed.

Many businesses get both CAT & TOT, hoping one will stay up.

Welcome to TOT. I've suffered their service for at least 7 years now (in BKK area). It never gets better.
