June 6, 201312 yr Does Khon Kaen suffer from bad smoke pollution like Chiang Mai etc in the north does every year? I know Thais like to burn so there will obviously be some smoke at times but does it have 3-4 months of continuous and insufferable smoke? Thanks
June 6, 201312 yr Never. But it does get dusty in the latter part of the dry season, as do most provinces in northeast Thailand. Give me any part of the northeast any time over the polluted northern provinces.
June 6, 201312 yr Even when it gets a little dusty in March, the winds usually blow it away the same day. I lived in Chiang Mai before Isan and Feb-April is much more pleasant out here. My health is better too.
June 6, 201312 yr Author Thanks, I'll add KK to my shortlist. Ubonrthai, in terms of size, how does it compare with Chiang Mai? Is CM bigger with more people/traffic or are they similar?
June 6, 201312 yr In Dec-Jan sugar cane burning off can be a problem. I don't know whether much is grown around K.K. The smoke and black burnt particles soon blow away however. Much more of a problem are the grossly overloaded sugar cane trucks on the road.
June 7, 201312 yr Thanks, I'll add KK to my shortlist. Ubonrthai, in terms of size, how does it compare with Chiang Mai? Is CM bigger with more people/traffic or are they similar? CM is and feels much bigger. Tons of tourists and expats living there too. What are you making a shortlist for?
