PHUKET: A foreign man was killed instantly when the motorcycle he was driving collided with a six-wheeled truck at a five-way intersection in Rawai this morning.

The accident happened about 10 am along Wiset Road near the Phuket Raumjai Rescue Foundation building.

The man's motorcycle was completely wrecked in the collision, and witnesses said its driver was not wearing a helmet.

He suffered serious head injuries and died immediately.

Wreckage from the collision remained strewn across one lane of the road while emergency services attended to the accident.

The driver of the truck, which was laden with beer and driving from the direction of Rawai beach, suffered injuries to his legs in the crash, and was taken to Vachira hospital.

Fair enough.

Have a look at the other accident in PG today.

Drunk and speeding. The roads pose the biggest threat to your life/health here. You may be doing the right thing, it doesn't mean the person coming the other direction is doing the same.

Exactly.....scary shit at times..bah.gif

No chance of fleeing the scene then.

Indian?

Who?Driver or deceased rider?

This accident apparently about 10AM so not the more common drunk riding home in the early hours scenario[ not saying he was or was not drunk] but an unusual incident in that the bike was so far overto the right from his correct position on left lane.Looking at that yellow area must be about 2 meters wide ..that's a good sized divider.

Even a badly misjudged overtaking move would be unlikely to be in his position....

Time will tell, must have been some witness es who saw it all...but very sobering photos for sure..

He was an American, 27 years old. Does anyone know the location? Looks like a dual carriageway on the map. Does it have a central reservation with a crash barrier or greenery in the middle, or only those yellow lines?

And if it was a rental the helmets they provide with their bikes wouldn't have helped much anyway at that speed.

Agree about rental bike helmets....and the best helmet available would not have made much difference to the outcome in this one

Severe internal injuries would be as much the cause of death as head injuries would....violent impact indeed looking at the pics..sad.png

RIP..

Well at least the deceased is identified now...

The story is as confusing as usual these days..

In the start it says..

;PHUKET: American Nicolas Javier Solis, 27, teacher, was killed instantly when the motorcycle he was driving collided with a six-wheeled truck at an intersection in Rawai this morning.

The man’s green Honda Click, heading south from Chalong at speed, crossed Viset Road and crashed into the front of the Chang truck.

The fatal collision occurred on a straight stretch south of the Chalong Circle, towards Rawai.

So was it at an intersection or on a straight stretch of road?

I dont know the area at all , but from the pics i dont see an intersection..

Being American, did he get confused at some point and cross to the wrong side of the road, thinking he was on the correct side , i wonder?

{This is very common occurence with visitors in NZ and many rental cars have a warning label on the speedometer warning to keep left]

Phuket Gazette

PHUKET: -- A 27-year-old American man died instantly on Saturday when he was hit by a Chang beer delivery truck on Wiset Road, in Rawai.

“According to witness reports, American Nicolas Javier Solis exited Soi Kok Ma… onto Wiset Road, heading to Rawai Beach,” said Lt Wuthiwat Leangboonjinda of the Chalong Police.

“As he exited Soi Kok Ma, he was struck by a six-wheeled beer truck, which was northbound, heading toward Chalong Circle [map here],” he added.

Mr Solis died instantly, said Lt Wuthiwat.

The force of the impact shattered the windshield of the truck. The truck driver, 24-year-old driver Jakrit Kaewloy, suffered a broken leg.

The motorbike Mr Solis was riding was found about 50 meters from where the truck came to a stop, Lt Wuthiwat said.
