DO NOT GO GENTLE INTO THAT GOOD NIGHT

Do not go gentle into that good night,

Old age should burn and rave at close of day;

Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,

Because their words had forked no lightning they

Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright

Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,

Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,

And learn, too late, they grieve it on its way,

Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight

Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,

Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on the sad height,

Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.

Do not go gentle into that good night.

Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Dylan Thomas

No, I will go gently into that good night. Of course, I expect to wake up sometime tomorrow morning. :o

Poets are a right depressing lot are they not? :D

Not always . . . :o

ESCAPE AT BEDTIME

The lights from the parlour and kitchen shone out

Through the blinds and the windows and bars;

And high overhead and all moving about,

There were thousands of millions of stars.

There ne'er were such thousands of leaves on a tree,

Nor of people in church or the Park,

As the crowds of the stars that looked down upon me,

And that glittered and winked in the dark.

The Dog, and the Plough, and the Hunter, and all,

And the star of the sailor, and Mars,

These shown in the sky, and the pail by the wall

Would be half full of water and stars.

They saw me at last, and they chased me with cries,

And they soon had me packed into bed;

But the glory kept shining and bright in my eyes,

And the stars going round in my head.

Afternoon yourself, Dale. The sun's shining here. Spring is in the air and it's warming up considerably. The birds are chirping and, hey, <deleted>, are you trying to distract me . . . :D

I'm :D now. :D Mods, can we get some help here! :D

Why not have a sing along to sunshine on a rainy day by Zoe :D

I see you in the darkness

I see you in the light

I see your eyes shining

In through the night

Make me feel, make me feel

Like I belong

Don't leave me, you won't leave me here

All Alone

Cast your eyes

Like summer skies

Blue earth and the ocean

Clearer than the skies, yeah!

Sunshine on a rainy day (sunshine)

Makes my soul, makes my soul drip, drip, drip away

Sunshine on a rainy day (sunshine)

Makes my soul, makes my soul drip, drip, drip away

You touch me with your spirit

You touch me with your heart

You touch me in the darkness

I feel it start

Make it feel, make it feel

So Unreal (so unreal)

Like a wind in the desert

Like a moon on the sea

Sunshine on a rainy day (sunshine)

Makes my soul, makes my soul drip, drip, drip away

Dale, didn't know you to be such a fluff. :D Reciting poetry, are we now. :D Do your mates know about this??? :D

But I guess it's a dear poem to one who lives in a land of eternal rain, fog, and sleet and snow. In Thailand we look forward to the rain. On ocassion I even employ an old, American Indian rainmaker I know to make that dreaded sun go away. :D

VILLON'S GOOD-NIGHT

I

You bible-sharps that thump on tubs,

You lurkers on the Abram-sham,

You sponges miking round the pubs,

You flymy titters fond of flam,

You judes that clobber for the stramm,

You ponces good at talking tall,

With fawneys on your dexter famm -

A mot's good-night to one and all!

II

Likewise you molls that flash your bubs

For swells to spot and stand you sam,

You bleeding bonnets, pugs, and subs,

You swatchel-coves that pitch and slam.

You magsmen bold that work the cram,

You flats and joskins great and small,

Gay grass-widows and lawful-jam -

A mot's good-night to one and all!

III

For you, you coppers, narks, and dubs,

Who pinched me when upon the snam,

And gave me mumps and mulligrubs

With skilly and swill that made me clam,

At you I merely lift my gam -

I drink your health against the wall!

That is the sort of man I am,

A mot's good-night to one and all!

The Farewell.

Paste 'em, and larrup 'em, and lamm!

Give Kennedy, and make 'em crawl!

I do not care one bloody dam_n,

A mot's good-night to one and all.

Wynken, Blynken, and Nod

Wynken, Blynken, and Nod one night

Sailed off in a wooden shoe--

Sailed on a river of crystal light,

Into a sea of dew.

"Where are you going, and what do you wish?"

The old moon asked the three.

"We have come to fish for the herring fish

That live in this beautiful sea;

Nets of silver and gold have we!"

Said Wynken, Blynken, And Nod.

The old moon laughed and sang a song,

As they rocked in the wooden shoe,

And the wind that sped them all night long

Ruffled the waves of dew.

The little stars were the herring fish

That lived in that beautiful sea--

"Now cast your nets wherever you wish--

Never afeard are we";

So cried the stars to the fishermen three:

Wynken, Blynken, And Nod.

All night long their nets they threw

To the stars in the twinkling foam--

Then down from the skies came the wooden shoe,

Bringing the fishermen home;

'Twas all so pretty a sail it seemed

As if it could not be,

And some folks thought 'twas a dream they'd dreamed

Of sailing that beautiful sea--

But I shall name you the fishermen three:

Wynken, Blynken, And Nod.

Wynken and Blynken are two little eyes,

And Nod is a little head,

And the wooden shoe that sailed the skies

Is a wee one's trundle-bed.

So shut your eyes while mother sings

Of wonderful sights that be,

And you shall see the beautiful things

As you rock in the misty sea,

Where the old shoe rocked the fishermen three:

Wynken, Blynken, And Nod.

THE LAND OF NOD

From breakfast on through all the day

At home among my friends I stay;

But every night I go abroad

Afar into the Land of Nod.

All by myself I have to go,

With none to tell me what to do --

All alone beside the streams

And up the mountain-sides of dreams.

The strangest things are there for me,

Both things to eat and things to see,

And many frightening sights abroad

Till morning in the Land of Nod.

Try as I like to find the way,

I never can get back by day,

Nor can remember plain and clear

The curious music that I hear.

by Robert Louis Stevenson

YYYYYAAAAAAAAAAWN.... Youy folks are making me sleepy.

GOODNIGHT

The rabbits play no more,

The little birds are weary,

The buttercups are folded up --

Good night, good night, my dearie.

The children in the country,

The children in the city,

Go to their beds with nodding heads --

Good night, good night, my pretty.

THE ROCK-A-BY LADY

The Rock-a-by Lady from Hush-a-by Street

Comes stealing, comes creeping;

The poppies they hang from her head to her feet

And each hath a dream that is tiny and fleet,

She bringeth her poppies to you, my sweet,

When she findeth you sleeping!

There is one little dream of a beautiful drum,

"rub-a-dub!" it goeth:

There is one little dream of a big sugar-plum,

And lo, thick and fast the other dreams come,

Of pop guns that bang, and tin tops that hum,

And a trumpet that bloweth.

And dollies peep out of those wee little dreams

With laughter and singing;

And boats go a-floating on silvery streams,

And the stars peek-a-boo with their own misty gleams,

And up, up and up, where the Mother Moon beams,

The fairies go winging!

Would you dream all these dreams that are tiny and fleet?

They'll come to you sleeping;

So shut the two eyes that are weary, my sweet,

For the Rock-a-by Lady from Hush-a By Street,

With poppies that hang from her head to her feet,

Comes stealing, comes creeping.

by Eugene Field
