Koh Tarutao, Koh Kood, Koh Mak, Koh Phangan, Koh Lipe for beach life, but full with backpackers. The rest full with package tourists. Actually it is everywhere full in January, where it is possible to make a booking through travel agencies and tour operators and where it is mentioned in the Lonely Planet style travel books. Khanom or at the beaches at Chumphon it's also in January nice and quiet.....

Bali, is that an Island? biggrin.png

Yes it is of course -and a very nice one too. It also has the advantage of surf and sulphurous volcanos. smile.png

However, as this thread was posted in the Samui, Koh Pangnan Koh Tao forum, I guessed that the OP was enquiring in that general area - or is Bali now part of Suratthani? cheesy.gif

Much depends on what your friends enjoy.

I think it is prudent to miss out Phuket - it seems there is too much violence there.

For "Peace and Quiet" and I mean REALLY peaceful and quiet, may I recommend the West Coast of Koh Samui on the Lipa Noi area. You will find kilometres of beautiful and still unspoilt beach with views and sunsets to lift the spirit.

If you stay in a truly excellent family hotel like the Rajapruek Samui resort, the hotel will arrange a car (Honda Civic automatic) for 1100 baht per day, when you need it.

If they need the bright lights and Go Go scene, then there is an amazing collection of hotels in all categories in Chaweng or Lamai.

Samui is so handy for Koh Tao.

A bit more info Dogpoo and we can try to fill in the gaps.
