I dont see any tourists complaining about the prices of taxis and tuk tuks, just the honda dream pensioner gang.

I don't see the correlation between your statement and the headline which is " Illegal taxi drivers in Patong threaten Phuket governor with mob action". How does illegal taxi drivers threatening mob action correlate to tourists complaining about prices?

Feel free to answer this IrishIvan as I just can't connect the dots on the correlation.

"It sounds like a lot of TV members would like to go back to a system like the British Raj where we could whip the locals into being subservient."...................................

Are we allowed to whip them ? I'm up for that !

"Never broken the law here? Never got a hooker or a massage with a happy ending? Never driven drunk or without a helmet on or too lazy to pay your vehicle taxes?

never had a toke of ganga or slung a cop some tea money?"..................................................................

Guilty of most of the hideous crimes you listed but still have an extreme dislike for lazy, good for nothing scammers who think it is their right to rip off tourists and locals alike.

And please remove the "Irish" from your moniker, it is attracting attention from a certain race who believe they are far superior to the Irish.

I am a critic of the Tuk Tuk/taxi mafia and I drive a car. Why this need to insult the TV membership ?
Maybe you should ask your little ex-pat gang down there.biggrin.png

@ lostmebike

Sorry if I insulted your intelligence here, but your post here just doesn't make sense.

Do you ever talk to tourist's ? If you did.

You would find that it is the number one complaint to the TAT and various organisations

“We do not have the money to make our cars meet the qualifications necessary to be legally registered as taxis. Our cars are too old and we cannot afford to sell them and take on new loans to buy new cars,” Mr Anan said.

“Also, we must have first-class insurance for our cars to be registered as taxis… We simply cannot afford it,” he added.

If you drive a wreck and can't afford insurance why should you be allowed to operate? What part of the rules don't you understand?

And so these guys will be able to afford a 1.5 million baht taxi if they work hard on the rice paddies for a year? Or maybe massaging farangs? Or driving baht busses, do tell me how the poorest people of Phuket can afford a 1.5 million baht Toyota Camry?

And why would they need a B1.5m Camry? There are other suitable (new) vehicles available for much less than that. Also, as I read in the press every week, there's a labour shortage out there. If they cant taxi, go out and get a real job, although it may mean a little graft in the interim, but who knows.... save up the required, purchase decent vehicle + insurance etc then back to ripping people off legally....

Definitely agree with you there - plenty of construction jobs out there - as there is a huge shortage but that might require them doing a days work, hotels are crying out for staff, department stores etc etc........

Get yourselves legal and be a good tuk-tuk driver in POO-ket. Give some competition to those take-take drivers there and charge a reasonable price.

can you back this statistic up with actual facts? Or are we not letting the truth get in the way of a good story?

I Believe it was brought up at the recent ambassadors meeting with Thai officials a few weeks ago - so i would say its right up there in relation to complaints IVan

With Burma now coming into the 21st Century, there will be a huge labour shortage in Thailand in the near future.

With the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) starting in 2015. Thailand will also see a skills shortage, as well as an imminent labour shortage.

People keep banging on about ASEAN in 2015.

Maybe people should read about what is actually going to happen then before posting rubbish.

This ain't the EU.

Maybe you should read a little more about it. Who mentioned the EU????

Must be safe, if they work within the so-called "Safe Zones for Tourists" whistling.gif
