Chalerm warns Yingluck of her 'ice-cream gang'

Labour officials greet newly appointed Labour Minister Chalerm Yoobamrung on his first day at the ministry yesterday.

BANGKOK: -- A disaffected Labour Minister Chalerm Yoobamrung yesterday warned Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra that she was setting her government up for an early demise thanks to her new "ice-cream gang".

Chalerm was apparently referring to Yingluck's young aides.

After reporting for work at the Labour Ministry for the first time since the Cabinet reshuffle, Chalerm spent more than an hour complaining about his transfer. He previously held the post of deputy prime minister.

After briefly addressing senior Labour Ministry officials, Chalerm said he was sorry about being removed from his previous position because he was doing so well in fighting drug trafficking.

"I have the right to ask why I was transferred when I had always performed well," he said.

Chalerm went on to say that his sarcastic comment about being former PM Thaksin Shinawatra's slave was only meant to have a dig at the opposition Democrat Party. He said Yingluck had invited him to meet Thaksin in London in 2006, where he was asked to join the People Power Party.

After that he was put at the helm of the Interior Ministry for eight months until the so-called "gang of four" took over and started influencing the Cabinet. In this case he was referring to former PM, the late Samak Sundarvej, Thirapol Noprumpha, Newin Chidchob and People Power Party secretary-general Surapong Suebwonglee, who apparently tried to wrest power from Thaksin.

"And now there's an 'ice-cream gang' at Government House," he said.

Chalerm added that Yingluck should have veteran politicians around her so she can be shielded from political attacks.

"Now, she has only dogs around her and she will face her demise as prime minister as nobody will respect her," he said.

He went on to say that measures to control the Southern Unrest had failed partially because he had only taken over the responsibility in November and had not been given enough power or funds.

He also attacked Thawee Sodsong, secretary-general of the Southern Border Provinces Administration Centre, for ignoring his demand that he publicly announce that Chalerm had evidence proving that the Barisan Revolusi Nasional was behind the May 1 attack.

Six civilians were killed in the attack, and foreign media have been blaming Thai soldiers for it.

He also claimed that Thawee and the "ice-cream gang" had told Yingluck about his inability to ease the situation in the South, which is why she chose not to give him the task to oversee national security.

After which he promptly got on a plane and went to meet Thaksin in HK with a group of PT MP's and cabinet members.

And Yingluck said he was happy with his new job.

Which one is telling porkies?

This man is a complete and utter joke and a total liability. Just how does he survive and you can interpret " survive " as you see fit ?

I am surprised he hasn't been picked off yet. Over the course of time, he has created so much hell and so many problems. He doesn't think before he talks and insults many. Its starting to catch up to him though!

Give the poor guy a break! Yes he is from another galaxy, but he brings a smile to my face every day laugh.png

He honestly believes, he is a true warrior for Thailand, maybe he isn't, but he is for sure a 10 of 10 for entertainmentvalue!thumbsup.gif

Hope he stays in politics for many years to come, so I can get my daily Chalermfix!

Go Chalerm, we love you!!WPFflags.gif

Yes agree, on the surface he is very amusing and entertaining. Problem is that his behavior has left a trail of real victims behind such as Mrs Rodwimut and family who are finding his antics no laughing matter at all.

Kissing his ring. His ministry's next purchase is probably a Popemobile.

Funny. I was at the Labour department yesterday and did not see him. Did see his picture on the walls and on a big banner outside.

Parking sucks at the Labour Dept. Except for pink Bentleys

I find that photo offensive for that issue alone. Not the medicine jibe but that in a working relationship in what Thai's would have you believe is a modern country, the master servant relationship is played out to put the employee in such a lowly "you are less than I" position to the godly master. And that is not to say that scum like Chalerm is worthy of respect because he isn't but where for example an employee was doing the same to an honest manager above them then I would find that equally offensive. Besides corruption and all the others issues like incompetence and lawlessness for a few it is obvious that Thailand has other deep issues to resolve like basic human rights, equality and respect.

Thank you Roadman, I was beginning to think I was the only one who found that image sickening.

No-one, according to our Western style of thinking, has any right to such deference, but it is particularly offensive when someone of this level of ineptitude with his threatening posturing is shown such simpering respect.

This sort of medieval behaviour needs to be reduced to a polite nod and a handshake before clowns like this start to believe that they are gods ... too late in this case I guess!

I thought it was sick also and was wondering if he was going to turn round and get the other end kissed.

Could he be saying " Come to my office I will need some food served "

I am amazed Yingluck and Thaksin allow this buffoon to continue to spout off the way he does. When he was demoted he told the press he cursed the man he thought responsible for this and his family for SEVEN generations. Chalerm really is lower than an earthworm. Can you imagine someone saying in the West? Really... He's an overgrown child -- a bully at that.

Ring kissing is also traditional in mafia circles.
