Popular Post Ling Kae
I want to bring to everyones attention that there is a farang scammer in the sois of Pattaya. 6 weeks ago I was going on my daily walking routine when I was approched by man in soi Buakhow late morning. First thing he asks is if you speak english, if you say yes he continues to say that he had a funds transfer from overseas coming that has delayed by 5 hours and that he has no money to buy food until his transfer comes through. On that occassion I gave him the benefit of the doubt (thinking this could happen to me) and I gave him 100 baht to see him through. He said if he ever saw me again he would repay it. Then today again, same man on soi Buakhow, he did not remember me but I am 100% sure it was him. This time I questioned him. He speaks with a South African accent and told me he was from South Africa. This time he started off his speach the same way, I quickly replied "that's exactly what you said last time". I said 6 weeks later you are still waiting on the tranfers hey? I then said the best thing you can do is go to the South African Embassy or Consulate and tell them you need help and <deleted> off from here because you are nothing but a lieing scammer. He said he tried his Embassy but they were of no help. I told him I don't believe you and you are nothing but a serial pest in Pattaya giving all farangs a bad name to which he replied and said he had to eat. I then walked off. This man is a South African approximately 6 feet tall or about 185 cm. Mostly on soi Buakhow but I have seen him on soi Chaiyapoon as well. Be warned he is still waiting for that funds transfer 6 weeks later, he is a scammer. Popular Post rgs2001uk
Great stuff, always nice to read heart warming stories of guys who come over here and make a success of it, "living the dream" is what some refer to it as.

Popular Post Pattaya28
Similar scam used to go on at the Don Mueng airport. People were swarming about asking for 500 baht to leave Thailand as they'd spent all their money.
Popular Post frodo77
Similar scam used to go on at the Don Mueng airport. People were swarming about asking for 500 baht to leave Thailand as they'd spent all their money. Yes that happened to me. I was asked at check-in to help fellow passenger, and I did. Then on boarding I noticed he was in Business Class!
Popular Post KittenKong
"I want to bring to everyones attention that there is a farang scammer in the sois of Pattaya." Only one? What about all the ones looking for investment partners, or who "work" as real estate agents, club/bar/cafe/b&b owners etc? The streets of Thailand are paved with losers and deception, not gold and good intentions.

Popular Post Tolley
He is not really a scammer just a desperado begging for money with a flimsy cover story. I ignore anyone who tries to speak to me on the street in Pattaya. Too many losers with pathetic stories that I don't have time to listen to.
Popular Post Gsxrnz
There's a weedy Scandinavian bloke in Jomtien that wanders around bars trying to con you out of 40 baht to get a taxi home - girlfriend went home with his phone and cash, blah, blah, blah. His main aim is to lift anything of value from the table or bar that is not nailed down, such as your phone or wallet, sunglasses etc.

Seriously, I don't think that he's a scammer. He's a street artist. I sometimes throw 20 baht in his bucket. And I really don't know whether he would need a work license. There's a group of Thai youths break dancing there in the evenings. They are spectacular. I would certainly break my neck. I give them 100 baht.
DD13
Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy good musicians busking, they certainly brighten my day. As for street art (a new phrase to me) the guys in Royal are excellent, and "Old Silver" is ok, it takes guts to stand still in the heat here, but please "Silver" when you stop for a smoke, do it around the corner, not in front of the children you are entertaining. The guy who I think would be handy to have around is the "Street Lamp" with all the power cuts we endure here

GooEng
nothing new in that. when the boiler rooms all collapsed a few years back there were loads of penniless farangs about and one particular scouser who had a spot outside robinsons at soi 19. stopped passers by and told a brief hard luck story in a very plaintive and quite matey way and apologised and asked for 100b. i gave him the first time, and actually the second time i told him i'd heard his story two nights ago and he was totally honest and just said he was broke, hungry, no family support and trying to get by until something happened to get him out of the jam he was in. At least he is making some effort and not begging in teh bars or pestering people.

Richie23
Is it totally inconceivable that something unexpected has happened rendering these people penniless/homeless? It happens all over the world. When I worked in both NYC and London I'd often give some loose change. Why does it have to be a scam? I've only been living here 7 months so maybe I am missing something? Also, genuine question, Does it follow that the 'your' embassy has to help if you are destitute?

Two little stories about Scousers or Liverpudlians ,both asking for small change from strangers on the street for a bite to eat. The only difference here though is the attitude of the writers of the stories; one is polite ,gives a few baht & listens to an honest explanation from the begging Scouser he encountered. Now the other writer, the one who calls these people down on their luck "<deleted>" and "mugs" & can't even afford them a "grunt" ,must be a high class fellow that flits between his mansion in Isaan & his Kings dock penthouse without a care in the world ,what a lucky man.
Ling Kae
Is it totally inconceivable that something unexpected has happened rendering these people penniless/homeless? It happens all over the world. When I worked in both NYC and London I'd often give some loose change. Why does it have to be a scam? I've only been living here 7 months so maybe I am missing something? Also, genuine question, Does it follow that the 'your' embassy has to help if you are destitute? It is a scam when he repeats the BS story and picks up a 100 baht from each farang. I gave him a 100 baht the first time, he could just as easily have picked up 900 baht more from 9 other farangs on the same day. Not bad for a days scamming is it? He said his funds transfer was delayed by 5 hours, then 6 weeks later he tried the same story on again. He is a clear liar and serial pest but then again you probably think it's ok to do this time and time again, I don't and I told him so. Please try to understand, the first time I did help but obviously I was conned. For all we know he is probably living in a nice room at our expense. Most Embassy's will help their citizens in one way or the other. If it were me I would front up to my Consulate and ask for help. Are you seriously suggesting that the South African Embassy will not help one of their citizens under these circumstances? It happens all the time when people get robbed of all their money and passport and credit cards. I don't believe a thing this idiot says anymore and that is why I brought it to this forums attention.
