Hard Disk question

Featured Replies

Computer got a problem.

Didn't start WinXP anymore (went to the welcome screen and hand there, on safe boot it restarted somewhere in the middle).

I thought it is the HD.

Put in a other HD, put back the latest backup.

Checked the old HD with the Hitachi tool and the Windows Error check and format it new.

Everything seems to be OK.

What to do?

1) Consider the HD as good? Maybe a write error when electric failed?

2) Claim the HD?

3) Find some more in deep check software?

Doubt it was a HD problem to start with more like something corrupt with Windows, consider it cool

OK....SMART is obviously OK (Hitachi tool).

Still I am a bit annoyed about such problem on a modern system....

Even the latest technology stuff (hardware and software) develops problems. And it's not uncommon for software to get corrupted (or infected) and stop working correctly. You could even have a RAM problem causing the system to lock up at a certain point. But for now, concentrate on a corrupt XP installation, corrupt driver, etc.

yes I just played back the latest system backup and everything is working fine again...

I have for every computer here are system backup, so it needs just a couple of minutes.

Usually the HD get broken and I claim it and re-claim and re-reclaim it.

Rare cases are broken power supply or broken RAM, very rare broken mainboard.

But that is the first time that nothing is broken...
