The Thai government approved an 8 billion baht budget for the expansion of the infrastructure in Chiang Mai after a Cabinet proposal in January 2012 and the Provincial Administration Organization (PAO) plans to use that budget on more than just the proposed high speed rail between Bangkok and Chiang Mai.
President of the PAO Boonlert Buranupakorn noted that the increasing number of tourists traveling to Chiang Mai has increased traffic congestion but there still remains no mass transit in the city. The PAO plans to implement a monorail system to ease traffic congestion in urban areas.

I notice there are no kerb ramps on the pedestrian crossing in the picture. Wonder when they will remember they have thousands of people in wheelchairs here. Just stuck at home because of poor government choices.
