AlfGarnett Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 As we have a few Dogs, we have used quite a few different Vets on the Island (6 in total). With varying results, how to post my experiences and get other peoples too? Think it would be beneficial and could save people money in the long run if they are fore warned. Thanks AG
Gatorade Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 Dr. Somsak opposite the post office in Chaweng is very good and caring. There are others who are also v. good such as Dr. Ann opposite Big C. These are the only two Vets I have used for the the last ten years to support a motley assortment of mutts.
AlfGarnett Posted August 10, 2013 Author Posted August 10, 2013 Have had a chat with Dr Ann opposite BigC,, gave me some advice as the others were shut at the time, which was nice. I use her for Frontline for my dogs as she is the only Vets that restocks very quickly, and I have to buy quite a few boxes at a time. The only reason have not used her for treatment is the parking issue, carrying a dog of around 40 kilos across the road from BigC is a bit risky ! Have not used Dr Somsak yet so cannot comment on him, have heard nothing bad from anyone. 1

nod Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 I agree re. Dr Ann opposite Big C. Very caring Vet. My dogs greet her like an old friend even though she keeps sticking needles in them! Ha ha! 1

AlfGarnett Posted August 14, 2013 Author Posted August 14, 2013 What are Dr Ann's prices like ? We often use Youngnum, but seems to be getting rather expensive there, service is good enough though. Perhaps two tier pricing going on ? My usual first port of call is SP Clinic, good for basics, and often gives me the Shots to do myself at home ( on the dogs mind ) which saves a bit of hassle. One thing I would mention, ring the Vets first, they seem to have strange opening hours, and are often not as advertised. Happened to me on Saturday and that's was even after I phoned in the morning to confirm times !

Tropicalevo Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 JFI Most of the vets on the island no longer put pets to sleep. The reason given to a neighbour of mine is because of the paperwork and controls put into place on the relevant drugs, by the government. My neighbour recently had a very old dog that could no longer walk or even move easily. After a lot of soul searching, he decided that it was not fair on the dog. The main vets that he knew of all said 'sorry, we do not do this anymore'. Eventually, he found someone that would help him, where they put his best friend out of her misery. This is a difficult topic that some of us have to face from time to time. None of us want this, but unfortunately is does happen. Please just be aware that life just became a little more difficult for our beloved pets 1
Jose Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 My favourite Vet in Samui is Dr Sasiwimol(n) Puthkhiew at SP Animal Clinic - her assistants really care for animals, much more so than Dr Somsak's.84/20 M.3 Bophud, heading away from Chaweng a few hundred metres past Bangkok/Samui hospital on the opposit side of the road.Open 9am-8pm Mon-Sun, 12pm-8pm Wed - (077) 413 313 If you live in KPG, it's worth the boat trip to Samui to save money - and lives. KPG so-called "Vets" will go to extreme trouble to extract the maximum possible $$$ from your pocket, and often misdiagnose and insist on injecting (sometimes with re-used needles) the suffering souls with irrelevant and dangerous drugs. The last caring vet on KPG passed away a few years back... sorely missed by all who knew her.

I have found over the years that if you are a regular customer and the vet has been involved with your pet for some time then it is no problem. Dr. Somsak has made the "house call" when the time has come and our B. terrier went off, lying on his sunbed eating a piece of his favourite banana cake. 3

Please just be aware that life just became a little more difficult for our beloved pets We had a dog put to sleep a couple of years ago, was by the Vets between Hua Thanon and Lamai, the dog had Parvo and despite our best efforts could not be saved, it was in pain. Always get paperwork with the puppy, by the time we realised something was wrong was too late. This vet is nice enough, but a bit green/inexperienced for the money in my opinion. A few people have had small issues that I have heard of. Fine for jabs etc.

Dr. Somsak has made the "house call" when the time has come and our B. terrier went off, lying on his sunbed eating a piece of his favourite banana cake. It was the same with my 'best friend' a few years back. A vet from Dr Sonsak's surgery (young girl) came to my house to assist me. The example that I mention was just two weeks ago though, and Dr Somsak was one of the ones that said "sorry - cannot". Sorry to detract from the OP's original enquiry. Most of the vets mentioned are very competent and do a good job. It is all down to personal preference. My personal choice is Dr Somsak. He knows his stuff and his lab is well equipped.
